THE OFFICIAL TPT APPRECIATION THREAD!

Postby GinaSuperCat on 14 Apr 2007 05:10

Laff...I'm in total agreement Sockii...the harder-core-than-thou posture is so unproductive...actually, its rather surprising how many contexts in which that "authenticity" kick crops up...good grief :)

Just for your entertainment, I submit the following equation:

If Stewart is the biggest fan of the Police
and we are Stewart's fans...
therefore,
through the transitive property...

Are people trying to be all hard-core? Oh, good grief. Seems kind of like an anti-Police spirit, to me. One world, etc.

I haven't been by in a while, but seriously - there are some cool people on there. Are they not able to tamp down the violence a bit...?

The good thing about the number of threads there is you can always keep scrolling until something's your cup of tea...however, if someone posts a reply or question for you, you may forgot you posted in that thread and miss it (happened a few times already)!

The true fan issue pervades many things (music, sports, gaming, omg name it)...Eg. on the Inforoo boards, some were worried about the Police being way to big for Roo and ruining the atmosphere, others were worried about the Tool Army possibly ruining the established Roo vibe...others were worried this year's lineup would bring many older people with $ and change the vibe...so forth...there's this whole True Roo thing going on...it's the same thing...but the predominant attitude is open to all who are coming, at the same time...kinda same with Police...Police fan draws us together, then divisions within perhaps work contrary...but then when it all comes down to it, the most important thing is that we are Police fans <grin>

OT tangent: Ummm by the way, I have just recently discovered that Tool is wicked...ok, ok, the people [I'll have to be honest] I knew way back who were way into Tool drove me kinda nuts so I never really 'listened' to it with my usual open ears...but drumming kinda gets you into things that perhaps you wouldn't otherwise listen to {some of the lengendary drum grooves are from songs that many would kinda wince at today: eg Jeff Porcaro's groove on Toto's Rosanna} I have to say Danny Carey's beats are wicked groovy...I was really getting into it yesterday...that's what I love about music...you can always go back and revisit something to give it another try with a new pair of ears <grin>

I know that there are a lot of threads over at TPT that run the gamut of topics, not all Police related... Or so you would think! I believe that most, if not all topics, have something to do with being a Police fan. As Police fans, we have a lot of different influences and interests, and we enjoy discussing them with fellow fans. Who says that appreciating Bea Arthur is not worthy of a Police fan? Are you saying that we are better than Bea Arthur? The Hoff? Rubik's Cube? (I haven't started that thread yet, but I'm sure it's coming).

The fact of the matter is, a lot of us are having a really good time over at TPT, making friends, and discussing both interesting and silly topics. It's sad to see that some people here can't understand that.

Love you, STEWART!!

Has anyone found the "reply notifications" for the messageboard there to actually work? Because I've never been able to get it to work for me there, which is frustrating when I do want to follow a discussion, only to have it lost pages back by the time I get around to checking in on it later.

Was wondering if that was just another one of those PC vs. Mac issues with the site and the messageboard scripting they're using.

Oh, I know. All the years I've been active in scifi/media fandom I've seen it so many times there, too. Or say when a cult book or series gets adapted into a movie, and all the fans of the book series decide to look down on those who only discovered the series through the movie (Lord of the Rings fandom, anyone?)

Hey, sorry we've offended you, Buzz. I certainly don't think y'all's chat threads aren't worthy. There are just a lot of them, and I don't have time to get through all of them very often, myself. It's nothing personal, and certainly nothing directed at the real regulars over there, many of whom are very cool. (adria, whitedevil, ellietee...plus a slew of others)

I'm sure some folks there don't find SC.net to be their cup o' tea...but you can't please everybody. Nobody here is saying EVERYONE at TPT is some big loser...I haven't seen these Sting vs. Stewart threads, but I'm sure some folks are saying sensible things in even those. I'm sure a bunch of people will keep checking there, and Backstage, and Kalypso, and Police Files, and the billion other cool fan sites. I personally have no plans to cancel my TPT membership any time soon, and cruise by when I can...just been busy lately.

It's no big deal, really. We're all Police fans. I'd be glad to hoist a brew in the front row in Dallas, St Louis, or Bonnaroo with about ten people I can think of from TPT. Maybe I'll cruise by there later. We're still waiting to see your Chia Sting, by the way...

And, like sock and gina, I think this "true fan" nonsense is a waste of time. I feel no need to compete with anyone for anything, not the least reason of which is that I think nobody on any of these sites has anything to prove, and are cool by virtue of their shared admiration of some awesome music. Hey, we could all do much worse in our fan idolatry. (Not that there's anything wrong with adoring, say, Clay Aiken...;) ;))

Buzz...there's no need for you to have to defend what you like/enjoy...that's the great thing about preferences <grin> There's also no need to feel slighted if everyone isn't into the chatty thing...just b/c people may not be into it mean's nothing against those who do...once again, the horizontal terrain of likes/dislikes...As far as I seen no one here posts in those threads on TPT in order to cut them down or interfere with the fun there or hash anyone's buzz...some people here have expressed that it's just not their thing and stick to here: I see nothing wrong or offensive about that...y'know, different strokes n'all...

I think it's great people are making friends and have a place where everyone understands Police mania...instead of people around you IRL looking at you like your some freaking nutter...surely everyone of us here understands that <grin> Things over here are, imo, just a different *speed* really...there's like 8k+ people on TPT and 1.5K people here...and I think the way in which the FC and site was launched, amidst the frenzy and chaos of the announcement and first presales, etc., that a lot of complaining really set an unfortunate tone...but negativity is usually quickly turned around...that's the great thing about message boards...

Re: ADD, ask anyone here...I can't stay on topic if you paid me...I think, act, and speak tangentially...see you on TPT )

We already have that here. I think that's one of the main reasons I almost never go over there.

And for the Police, I like jackie's site. My favorite is the shots gallery.

Im never over at TPT anymore.. too many weird topics over there and that "Recent Post" thread is annoying... and unappealing to the eye.

I got a 91 on my paper, my 25 page paper, and now it's time for the final draft... I am happy.

They've actually added some categories, so TPT has gotten way easier to navigate (and to avoid the miscellany if desired). I actually just posted for the first time over there a few minutes ago.

CONGRATULATIONS, BLUE!
