I think the police reformed because sting had done everything that he wanted to do in his solo career and fancied playing in the power trio again.
He is a very rich man in his own right and has accumulated many millions of pounds.
A part of me likes to think that sting altruistically thought he would help out his two buddies who have fallen on hard times in recent years.

Obviously I don't take it too seriously as I had to laugh reading Philips first post. 
At the Whisky show Sting said something like he's doing it because he had been running away from this part of his life for 24 years now. Maybe it's (only partially of cause!) something like a psychological thing for him - I don't know. He appeared to be quite earnest while saying this.

Actually I am tired momentarily as I have been up since 8:30 last night cuz I work graveyard and have not slept yet...and I have to work again at 10:30 tonight....will I get any sleep?
