I think you're right, sockii. I'd love to see nearly any band in Australia...actually got hassled there once by a fellow crowd member at a Paul Kelly show for not dancing enough.
I'll agree the bane of the concert experience is people who are just there to get drunk or high, too. People are usually pretty civilized in this part of the world, but that's one thing that's really bad hereabouts. I don't have a problem with what other folks want to do, unless they start hollering inane things to their friends (standing up repeatedly so they can do same, along with that "idiot wave" drunks often do), singing along so loudly with lyrics that you can't hear the band, or stumbling and falling on you/throwing up on you (all of which I've had happen in the last six months or so at concerts...
) This is made much worse by the seating config at some arenas. I got floor seating for the Dixie Chicks at our local entertainment center/airport hangar, and the seats were crammed so close together on the floor that you literally could not move to take off your coat, put down a drink, etc.
I still think smaller cities might be a good bet, and I bet Pittsburgh is great. I've been there a couple of times, nice city. I'm thinking about Indianapolis, Columbus or Kansas City, in the U.S. There'll be less demand for tickets and hotel rooms are less expensive. I have no clue what comparable cities those might be in the U.K., though. I do have to say that if I find out they'll play a 3,000 to 5,000 seat club, anywhere in the U.S., and I have a ghost of a chance to get tickets, I am there, and I'll be prepared to pay a premium.
