How many people have seen The Police and if not, why?

How many people have been fortunate enough to see the police?

I became a young fan in 1979 (I was 9 !!) and only two tapes were running on my tape player, Outlandos and Reggatta 'til 84 when a friend of mine made some copies of the 3 other albums.
So I was too young when The Police came for the last time in France in september 83 (Paris and Dijon), althought these two cities are not very far from my hometown (about 300 km).
I just became a "real" fan in 87, collecting live performances, books etc... when I get a little money from my family. But it was too late: The Police broke up !

I was a fan, but because of the damn Who concert where all those people died, I wasn't allowed to go to concerts until I was 14. (Yes, I'm completely serious.)

By then they'd broken up.

Wombat, what I want to say is that I was depending on my family, and no one at that time was interested to drive me 300 km to see a Police concert... and I even didn't know they were touring France in september 1983.
That was not my main concern at that time.
You were luckier than me !

Wow, that was a long way, Olivier! I'm not sure I could find someone to drive me 300km now, nevermind back then.

Anyway, I'm sure we can all make it this time.

Hey Mrs. G., did you Google "Altamont" like I told you to a couple months ago?

Not trying to be condescending, just trying to help a young person learn to love music and its history, like others did for me lo those many years ago...:)

Too young,

I missed out by a year, parents let me see Queen in '84 when I was 13 with a family friend.

Drove to Chicago with two friends, no map, no accomodations, and barely enough money to buy tickets, food and gas, to welcome the Police to their first show of the Synchronicity tour. They played at the old Comisky Park. Open "seating" allowed us to manuever to the second row only because those in the first row couldn't see over the wood barricades. Slept in a Ford Pinto on the way back at a truck stop -- in the passenger seat.

About a week later, saw them again in Cleveland, Ohio. Since I lived in the area, I was able to sleep in my own bed.

However, the same two friends and I were hanging out at the arena many hours before the show, hoping to get a glimpse of our heroes. Lo and behold, a limo drives right by us, and at the base of the slope leading into the arena, out gets Stewart. All I could do was yell, "Stew. Stew. Stew." He had to be about 70 yards from me, but with no one else around, he could hear me. Truth be told, he looked at me like I was an idiot (which I'm sure looked accurate), and proceeded into the arena.

That was 24 years ago, and I remember that week like it was yesterday.

Wasan't that the one where Hell's Angels were thesecurity, and two died and two were born?

This one just sounded like a massacre.

I was about a year old when they broke up... but when I was old enough to listen to music and understand music, roughly around five or six, I was hooked on their stuff... especially "Roxanne."

Now it's all about anything off of Zenyatta Mondatta for me, that and "Invisible Sun." I love that stuff.

Mrs. G, the Who concert was in 1980 or 1981. It was cold and raining in Ohio, I think it was Cleveland but I'm not sure. The show was set for festival seating and they didn't open the doors on time.

When they finally opened the doors a whole bunch of people got trampled. Many ended up in the hospital and some died. I want to say 8-10 people died, so not that many, but many more were injured.

They actually did a special episode of WKRP in Cincinatti about it, that's where most of my memories come from. Also when my mom decided no concerts for me.
