Yes! I can't praise them highly enough. In a rare display of state unity, this page was started by Auburn University students to help the city of Tuscaloosa, home of the University of Alabama. The football rivalry between these schools is quite vicious. A few months ago, an Alabama fan poisoned the historic oaks at Toomer's Corner in Auburn, inspiring a Facebook page by disgusted Alabama fans called "Tide for Toomer's". Auburn has now stepped up with a "Toomer's for Tuscaloosa" page. They're now posting details about when and where to volunteer and take supplies statewide. http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Toomer ... 9264041188
(I'm an Alabama fan, but my respect for Auburn has increased tremendously!)

It has been amazing to see all the local efforts to help people after the storms. I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it around here. From what I'm hearing and reading, the majority of relief has been coming not from national organizations, but from people organizing themselves and loading up trucks to get directly to affected areas.

Here's a link to a telethon in progress until 2am Central time Thursday:

There's a huge "THANKS NASHVILLE" billboard downtown right now that looks to be sponsored by RecoverTuscaloosa.com...I'm glad to see my community has stepped up. For all our faults, that's one great trait about living in the Southern U.S.

What can I say: Y'all would help if our places were switched (and did - people streamed up here from Alabama and elsewhere when we were flooded).

I'm still hoping to do some weekend cleanups either in Alabama, or in KY/IL/Memphis, much of which is still flooded. We finally got a break from the six weeks' worth of constant storms, but we're not out of the woods yet. Tornado season runs for a few more weeks. Sigh.
On Google - site:stewartcopeland.net "your keyword here" - thanks DM!!
