As soon as the lights went down, everyone around us lit up, lol. They went on at 8:15, played for more than an hour, then took a 20 minute break, then did Moving Pictures in its entirety. They did play some deep tracks and new songs I didn't know, but it didn't matter - all the songs sounded great. Both Geddy and Alex lit it up. Neil did a drum solo near the end. I was surprised because I thought he would have been out of gas by then, but apparently not, holy crap! They were still playing when we left at 10:55. We had to make it to Grand Central to get an 11:40 train, or Monday morning would have been ugly! OK, who can tell me why they have washing machines onstage?
The washing machines are Geddy's. He got tired of Alex having such big amps that took up half the stage, so he decided he needed something big on his side! At first it was dryers, then rotissary chicken roasters, then sandwich vending machines. Is it really washers now? I'm really regretting not going, in that case - my 6-year-old is infatuated with washing machines (he's a budding engineer/mechanic/inventor/mad scientist). He would have loved to have seen them!
