shouldn't The Police play for Haiti

I don't think The Police playing for any good cause is a bad idea - in general.
However: "using" a catastrophe as a means of getting them together again: that's terrible.

As far as I can tell, nobody was saying or implying this. Why not just apologize for your attack on marsbars and let's move on.

I did not think that Marsbars was implying that he wanted to take advantage of this horrible catastrophe for his own listening pleasure. And even if people would think that, offending is not the way to make your point of view heard. I was once called "ridiculous" in this forum just because I made a musical comment preffering one version of a Police song, over another.

it is very easy and incredibly coward to cuss on people on the virtual world behind the "safety" of avatars and physical distance.

After that, although I visit this community every day, I kind of stop posting, because, in my opinion, the only reason for being here is love. This is supposed to be a fun place. Disagreeing is natural and enriching if done with politeness and manners.

Marsbars, I sympathyze with you and your elegant reaction deserves my respect.

Man, think of all the suffering, chaos and violence...

...that would result from reuniting The Police.

I share Dietmar's opinion on what ex-bands, and their fans, should do re. Haiti.

Marsbars, you expressed a differing opinion and I'm sorry you have been genuinely offended by some responses.

For what it is worth, in my experience Dietmar is direct - even blunt - when expressing his views on here. He's also a) not hiding behind a user name (he is Dietmar in the real world - or Deitmar if you're an american drummer with spelling issues) b) the most bat-shit-crazy-whilst-still-being-rational Police fan a person could ever hope to meet c) a really decent guy who has done unimaginable amounts of work for this odd little community, and one of the nicest gents one could meet.

In short, the internet sucks when it comes to getting to know people. It's painful when it goes wrong here - a bit like having a stand up/knock down row in someone's home. Whilst acknowledging the irritation on all sides, is it possible to draw a line under it now?

I have this funny feeling The Guys have probaly already donated in whatever non-public ways. Am early to jump up onto the make fun of Sting train, but he and Trudy have given of their own resources to various what have you over the years. All three of the Guys, probaly have contributed or will.

First of all, I think the boys already gave us as much as we could have asked for.

Second, charity concerts are Sting's "thing". He's already signed up for Clooney's telethon, as we all could have predicted.

Third, he finally shaved the Grizzly Addams beard... Now that's something to raise a glass to!!!!!!!

The thing I always wonder about these charity gigs is what percentage of the proceeds have to pay for the administrative costs like Sting's macrobiotic snacks and Bono's big sunglasses before money actually gets to the charity itself and how long it takes to figure all that out. I think it's better to donate as quickly and directly to the organizations working on the ground than having to go through all these shady middlemen groups

I think through this we have forgotten Haiti

Australia fires last year! yes there were concerts last year to raise money after the fact

Already Oz through red cross has donated over one million dollars to help in a couple of days

it is not that simple and never will be

a small country deversated by an eathquake.....massive

all i am saying it takes time, it can't happen over night. give support, give prayers and be there any way you can

i know were you are coming from the police thing but it is not realistic. There is so many bands today who can give a bigger impact....but lets try to concentrate what they need now

The help is there but under what has happened it hard to act to the areas so badly affected. It is happening and it takes time, they are not forgotten. Roads are down, impossible areas to fly copters are not easily available.

Keep giving, keep praying, keep them in your thoughts

Rod Stewart, Leona Lewis, JLS and Michael Buble have all agreed to take part in the Haiti charity single, which has been organised by Simon Cowell.

The artists will record a cover of REM's ballad Everybody Hurts.

The Sun newspaper, which has teamed up with Cowell, said Robbie Williams, Coldplay, Take That and Sir Paul McCartney have also been approached.

Meanwhile, Madonna and Beyonce will take part in a global telethon to raise cash for the earthquake-hit country.

Hollywood star

Performances for the Hope for Haiti event will be screened on every major TV network in the US and streamed on websites around the world.

In the UK, it will be shown live on MTV from 0100 GMT on Saturday, 23rd January, and repeated at 0900 GMT the same day.

Other acts taking part in the telethon include U2's Bono and The Edge, Jay-Z and Rihanna, who will all be performing together in London.

Wyclef Jean, who is a Haitian-American, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J Blige, Shakira and Sting will perform in New York.

Finally, for those who didn't expect anything related, Sting support it and that is good not for raising the big media...is a thing of help people, is the meaning that stars from the entertainment industry are the opinions leaders who convince their followers, fastly and easily, about the meaning of help and support into an enourmous catasthrophre like the Haiti Earthquake happened.

Great participation Sting with "Driven Tears" 8)
