My dvd player wasn't advertised as being region free, but I googled it and found there was a DVD remote hack where if I enter a certain 4 digit code, it brings up a window that enables me to switch regions or make it region free. It's a cheap Lite-On player.
Indeed. My friend Bev bought me a cheap ass dvd player a couple years ago--tiny little box--but it's the only one I can play Region 2 discs on! I love the thing! Plus I can pack and carry it with me as need be.
I know one of the problems with a lot of tv show releases on dvd is, not anticipating the technology and demand for shows in box sets, most series did not secure the rights for the music to be distributed beyond airing on television. Hence a lot of shows where the soundtracks contributed heavily to the episodes have suffered on dvd release or not been released at all. ("Wiseguy" is another 80s show with a huge problem in this regard...the scene set to "Nights in White Satin" is a fandom staple, yet not available on dvd... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mv9Uy76fM0 ) "Cold Case" I know had a lot of problems because of their soundtrack issues as well...
