I know i'm going to get flamed for this, but.........

It was my rabid fandom for Gabriel stuff that led me to early Genesis. Befoe I learned that he had ever even been in the group, I was just a casual fan. But eventually I got into the band and amassed most of their catalog. I enjoy basically all eras of the group.

Phil's recent tour dvd featured the tongue-in-cheek title "Finally... The First Farewell Tour." So, yeah, he was poking fun at the concept, while also allowing that it might actually be his last time out. I believe he really designed it that way, as his new family and hearing loss were likely causing him to shy away from any future touring. But since then he and his wife have split up, so who knows where his head is right now.

While I regret Peter not being involved, the bright side (for some of us, anyway) is that they should be able to touch a lot more bases than just those first few albums, while not ignoring the old stuff either. Every live release they've ever done has a few songs from those years, so it seems likely. However, Phil was pretty heavily criticized by his ardent fanbase for favoring the hits on his last tour, so i guess anything's possible.

If he hadn't stuck with the hits, there would have been way more complaints.

He looked disapinted when everyone got up during You'll Be In My Heart, for a pee brake and more beer.

I also think it's amazing that an artist of Phil's stature would be willing to do the Genesis tour and even invite Gabriel to participate in the first place. As good as those Trespass/Lamb songs are, they've never really penetrated the general marketplace like the later material. Phil could easily have had an ego about it and just decided to go forward without even inviting Gabriel very easily. Especially in light of the fact that he's generally put off by constant comparisons of the two made by the fanbase.

The Police

Postby giovanni on 26 Nov 2006 10:55

If The Police would do a tour like this, I think I would try to go at every show...I would ruin myself, probably loose the job, having problems with my partner, spend all the money I have...

but I would do it

Single? No, I'm not; I could say that more than 10 years ago.
