In looking at rs.com, I found the following link that seems to support the notion that the list of 15 is what they published (and its a reader's choice thingy, so its up to whatever the readers' perception/submissions it seems):

Happy that Oysterhead made the list....but other then that can we truly see why THE MUSIC INDUSTRY TODAY IS CRAP.

I mean....The Beatles/Jimi Hendrix and The Experience/The Police/Rush/Lead Zepplin/Toto/XTC/U2/Concrete Blonde/Fog Hat/Genesis/The Cure did any of them make the list?

I think supergroup has come to mean a group that consists of artists who had already achieved a certain level of popularity, influence, and fandom in other projects before its formation, not by means of the group formed ...but, ya, these things are always ridiculous but fun to crab about at the same time!

Indeed. "Artists", as in plural. How do Foo Fighters make this list? Sunny Day Real Estate were hardly popular, though are considered greatly influential when it comes to "emo" (GOD I HATE THAT TERM but it applies...). By this level of definition, Queens of the Stone Age were a supergroup when Dave was drumming with them. Er, I adore them both, but really? No.
