I'm gigging this weekend at the Old Northeast Tavern in St. Pete, FL, if any of y'all want to swing by. Early gig because it is embedded in a neighborhood, 7-10 p.m. -- singer/songwriter stuff for which I've been recording backing vocals. Come on down! It is still summer here at the beach!

so my band, pick up sticks, should be wowing 'em at the troubadour tonight... 10pm for 30 mins (see previous post)...

so it gets to 10.30pm and i ask the promoter what's going on, he is ineffective and shrugging, "i don't know what's happened, it was ok at 9pm when the second band went on..."...

upshot, the long and short of it: smax kicks off again at a fuckin' promoter who says "will you be alright to go on at 11.30?"..

erm, no...... give everyone who came to see us (an ok 40 odd people) their money back, you tosser.

this is the second time in two weeks that one of my bands should have been headlining at a london venue and ended up not playing 'cos the promter couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery (see previous post).

meh... kind words, fanx... they're different promoters who are attached to the venues and are attempting to 'run' (HA!) their own nights at these places..... i will refrain from swearing again...

the next is at the borderline in november, and will defo happen 'cos we're supporting mike batt's son (mike batt responsible for the wombles and katie melua) and mike wants his son to *make it* just like katie.... so there are gonna be ads in broadsheets and mags etc.... he's gonna pack the place with journo's n meja types n tycoons trying to get his son signed... so, of course, the plan is to play him off stage and scoop the prize for ourselves........ :P

two more gigs this week.... we've just been asked to play at the epsom and ewell firework display on saturday to 10,000 people in Hook Road Arena (it sounds better than it is!), apparently it's us, then the mayor then the fireworks... excellent..... don't know how good the PA will be, or whether there will be speakers round the whole site or what but it should be fun... and it's 5 minutes from my house!

and playing the Borderline, ( http://www.meanfiddler.com/ ) near oxford street on monday night... on early at 7.30! but that's ok 'cos (as per the above post) hopefully it will be crammed with cheque-book wielding A&R bods.......

Man that's awesome- I miss those days. Even if the promoters are being shitty, you're still out there fighting the good fight (the only fight!).

Play your hearts out! Kill it! Bash it at the Borderline!!!

Jr. placed first alternate for percussion all-state. Very proud since he never tried out before. And the other senior percussionist at his school made all-state, the first time in at least 4 years any band member from their smaller school made it. Yay!

i was thinking of this thread t'other day too. glad to hear yo're out there C.....altho reading my last posts makes me despair especially asi go on to say that my last gig was with punk band in a dirty pub, which was brilliant right up to the point near the end of the set when the guitarist kicked his guitar across the stage and had a go at the singer who promptly walked off stage and out ofthe pub!

tssssk, boys, boys, calm down......

started doing some new songs with a guy i've known for a while... kinda harmony-based 60's psych-pop type stuff, or something, calling it "The Silvertown Explosion".....

Thanks for bumping this, Chatchka! I was just thinking about this thread over the weekend. Have a great show this week!

Smax, the important question: after the guitarist kicked his guitar and tried to throttle the singer, did you get paid?

What other news, SC.net?

BONGO, speak!
