OT Worst winter ever

OT Worst winter ever

Postby alex on 31 Jan 2009 02:11

Sorry about the rant. But I gotta say that if I see so much as one more snowflake this year I'm gonna lose it. This has got to be the worst winter that I can recall. Day after day of minus 20 temps. Then it warms up enough so that it can snow another foot. And it's still January!! If I go missing, google "Canadian gets arrested and put in mental institution for screaming at falling snow, and trying to kill it with tennis racket"

I, for the first time ever, wish there was no snow where I am. it is making running intolerable

Hang in there alex! We'll get through this together, one snowshoe clad footstep at a time.

I wouldn't mind some pretty snow if it melted quickly but we get the people who don't shovel and in NYC you need to be able to walk to get anywhere.

This might help take the edge off--this clip is a few years old but still appropriate today. Enjoy:

On the other hand, sixteenlaps - the best run I've ever had was in Iowa - visiting family - Sunday night, just after big snowfall. It was a powdery snow, so the streets were just wet, not slick - and there were piles of snow everywhere. The streets were completely empty because it was late on a Sunday. I ran for nine miles - right in the middle of the street. Man - it was solitude, eloquence, and serenity like I have never known since.

I get a little intense about running, lol. I can't do it anymore - except for 1 minute at a time (and that WORKS, baby!), but there is NOTHING like it.

Thanks for the clip, Susan. Yeah, we've had a rough winter too, Alex. I am so much more of a warm weather person. Is it Spring yet?

Seriously. Any city for that matter. Where do you go with it? Cars plowed in, sidewalks are a one-lane ice luge.

Sorry that you're not having much fun this winter. Can we blame global warming?

You need to turn it around and use the snow as an excuse to buy new boots and a coat. I know... I'm talking to a guy, but I gave it a shot.

That's part of why we're going to Jackson Hole to celebrate Mr. D's birthday. I figure if I have to suffer through winter, I'm at least gonna get some fun out of it. Here's hoping I don't break my ankle on the ski slopes.

We're forecast snow in England on Monday night - Tuesday.

I expect we'll only get a couple of inches but the whole country will still grind to a complete halt!

Same here, for the opposite reasons. I love cold weather, and today it was 65 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, the region is so dry we are going to shower in bottled water this summer! Record lack of rain or any kind of precipitations.

I know that many of you think it's crazy to complain about this, but I LOVE snow and proper winters - I don't like perpetual summer!

I'm gonna play some raindance music.

Psst...alex. Did you see that wierd thing in the sky over Toronto today? It was this bright glowing orb that eminated rays of heat and light of such intensity as to liquify the snow and ice. I'm not kidding. It was like some sci-fi flick.
Did you go outside and experience this strange phenomena first hand? I was brave and went out. I was forced to wear special eye protection called s-u-n-g-l-a-s-s-e-s. I walked the length of the supermarket parking lot without putting my gloves on. That's right man. My hands were bare! And I was okay...okay. Then, I looked down and realized that my coat was zipped up only half way. No shit. When I got in my car I noticed that the digital themometer was broken. The little dash in front of the number was not displaying. It read 4C, not -4C. I'll have to get that fixed.

Tomorrow is groundhog day, the mid-way point of winter. The forecast is calling for temperatures back at our now normal -11C. I don't know about the likelihood of shadows though. Either way, on behalf of groundhogs everywhere, I got to tell you alex, don't shoot the messanger. Literally.
