Just a question

Just a question

Postby visions on 14 Jul 2007 14:45

As most of you know I am new to the Internet and recently joined eBay

The question is this

I have had a seller who is been very friendly and wonder if I should take at face value or something else?

Most talk to me but I have had a lot of from this ebayer asking a lot of questions but not too personal yet also but it could be from where I am (from Tassie) so how do I take this?

Any advise would be helpful

What is he/she asking, Visions? Obviously talking about what you are buying is okay, but can you be more specific?

Okay Dm since it's you

I wouldn't be worried but there is a few questions like

At first what do you do in australia?

then do you were shorts?

i said it is winter and he asked what I was wearing?

That is what I am worried about yet he talks about his kids and how much he loves them

what am I suppose to think?

I worried because he asked me what I am wearing?

Whoa, girl! Stop now.

"What do you do" is an inappropriate question in this situation. You're buying something -- you're not on a date. The rest of it is just ridiculous. Who honestly gives a crap what this person loves or doesn't. BUSINESS relationship.

Stop emailing. Block the guy's address. Step away. Trust your instincts.

See what DM says, as I have only had one cup of joe so far :) But if someone is bothering you about personal information not pertinent to the item you're buying or selling (and especially if they are using the ebay communication tool within an auction) then you can report them to ebay, they do not tolerate the use of "ask seller a question" feature for anything else than asking about the item in question.

Edit: and yes, ditto DM, don't play along any further!

That, too. Tell eBay precisely what he has said. Keep the emails for now in case they want records. But tell them.

If he's doing this to you, odds are he's doing it to someone else.

Appropriate questions are things like what color is the item? what are the dimensions? when will it be shipped? how do you accept payment? etc.

This is all just Big Fat Inappropriate, sweetie.

Thanks guys I thought this but didn't want to be insulting to anyone

I know how to block anyone and sent a email to him the same

Just said I didn't want to insult anyone but I find this questioning funny and didn't really give him any details just basic so I gather you say just ignore his email and if he is innocent he will go away but keeps going report him

The reason I am saying this I do not want to report this if it is just innocent and if I ignore him he should go away

What do you think?

Honey, it's not innocent. Think about it:

You just sold X to someone. Would YOU then turn around and ask what they do for a living, do they wear shorts, etc?!? NO, you wouldn't. Because it's inappropriate and none of your damn business. NONE of your damn business.

I know you want to be nice here, sweetie -- but sometimes nice isn't what you need to be. You don't need to talk to this person; you don't need to explain ANYTHING; and you don't need to justify your actions. In this situation, you don't need to be nice. You need to stop communicating with this guy because all it does is encourage him.

Reporting him is a matter of your comfort level. But eBay (et al) wouldn't just freak out on him willy-nilly. They are a business. They open a claim, they do some research. If you're not comfortable with that, then that's your prerogative. But at bare minimal, Jan, don't keep emailing the creep. Self-preservation is not an insult; what he is doing is.
