GIO OR STEW: CAN YOU KEEP US UPDATED ON BONNAROO?

Postby cpriddims on 12 Jun 2007 22:49

Giovanni or Stewart,

Myself, Divemistress, GinaSupercat, Jedsoon, Duke, and RMoyer will be at Bonnaroo this week in search of Stew sitting in or doing things other than the Police set. WE would of course love to catch him jamming with other artists, etc or even get a chance to say hello (slim as it may be).

Would you forward us any info that you might know or ask Stewart to keep us scneters in attendance updated?

I could send you our 'scnet roo attendee contact list' if you want. Or I suppose you could post a hint on here, but we will all be out in the middle of nowhere starting on Thursday so no access to the site for the most part.

In this case, it may be better to text (or call) me at 404-502-5131 and I will text the others with the info or tell them in person. I am actually working as a volunteer at Bonnaroo. I plan to meet up with the others as soon as possible.

Anything you can do would be highly appreciated of course. Thanks again for all that you do for this site and the people on it.

Well, sincerely there is nothing I can do on my side; you also have to consider that everything is under The Police management (I mean meet&greet and whatever may be planned to meet the band or even just Stewart).

If I will get a request from The Police management or Stewart to plan something for SCneters I will do my best to plan everything like I did for Los Angeles rehearsals, but I guess the only special events like rehearsals and meet&greet are the ones already planned and visible on TPT.com

....and if any of you lucky Roo attendies get the chance to clue us lowly non-attendies in on the various goings on, we here at the forum sure would appreciate it!

Thanks for the quick reply!

Mostly what I meant was giving us a 'heads up' if you heard that Stew had special plans other than the obvious Police set. This is just so that we could plan to be there to witness it.

I don't expect it to ever be easy to meet Stew and the gang, but seeing him sit in with someone would be great! Maybe he doesn't have plans to do this?

Thanks again!

Well, we have no guarantee that Stew will be playing anything other than the official Police set, of course...but Bonnaroo.com is making much of the fact that he played the midnight jam on Friday night last year. Which of course he can't do this year, since The Police are in Vegas Friday night.

It would just be a bummer if he were to perform as a "special guest" in someone else's set, and the SC.net group didn't know about it in enough time to get over there to see it. Stewart recently mentioned playing with special guests at Bonnaroo in an interview, which is what has had some of us discussing this via email.

Guess we'll just have to keep checking the message board by the tent near the CD shop, but I will add that last year I would have given my eyeteeth to have seen Stewart's showing of "ES:TPIO" at Bonnaroo and I had no idea it had even taken place until a week or two later. The Bonnaroo organizers have the best of intentions, I'm sure, but it's such a huge festival that anything late breaking or not taking place on one of the main stages can easily get lost in the shuffle.

Is this the kind of info that Bonnaroo would post on their website? If so, I'd be happy to keep watch of their site & text message someone in the SCnet group if late breaking news pops up...

Dude! That would be awesome if something popped up. Would you txt it to my cell at the top of this thread? Thanks!

Dive will have to keep you updated since she gets to retreat back to the comfort of her own hotel each night! She could probably do a pre and post Police show report from her hotel I imagine.

What-d-ya say Dive? Yes? Maybe? No?

Thanks 3/4! Hub and I are going to try to get cellular web access, the problems with phones have been particular carriers and I'm pretty confident it'll work ok so we should have limited access...also there will be 10 or so comps with access (although I can't imagine what queuing up for those would be like!)

The more I think about it, perhaps Stewart has already told us, in a way, where he'd likely be...in the Bonnaroo interviews he mentions several other Bonnaroo bands (this year's lineup, to boot) so maybe that's a start...This is from the interview DMotD posted a while back on Roo:
http://www.chattanoogan.com/articles/article_107995.asp

Just a few quotes...

"What younger bands are you looking to play along side of at Bonnaroo?

Stewart Copeland: Well let’s see here, I had that list in front of me. There’s a bunch of guys, youngsters like Tool, nice boys. But – Wide Spread Panic, they’re kind of buddies of mine. I met those guys, they’re cool. (Manu Chow), man he’s playing on a different day. I would love to see him, I’ve been missing him. You know, I’m such a fan of his, but I keep missing his thing, just because, you know, I haven’t seen him and I really want to.

Who else, we got here? Go-Go Bordello. I was turned on to them by both my son, and (Les Claypool). (Les Claypool) has always got his finger on the pulse. Who else we got here? The (Klesmer All Stars), I think they played with Oysterhead. There’s that North Mississippi All Stars, they also played with Oysterhead. I endorse both of those bands."

Stewart Copeland: "White Stripes; that ought to be good. I like that band. I mean just the brass of it, you know, two of them going out there, with that girl who can’t even play the drums, but man is she effective. It kind of makes me think, why did I bother doing all of that practice when she can make such a rhythm without a discernable technique?"

Haha, and I love what he says about Meg...after hanging on drummers boards for a while it get's kinda old, the anti-Meg thing...the drum snobs all just pop veins about her popularity...I like what Stewart says and I love the fact that it's Stewart who says it <grin>

Some interesting notes about setlists and the 2ng tour leg, possibly including revisiting cities from first leg...

"And so most of the people we’re playing to, I think will have been to one of the previous shows. Now I’m trying to get that through to my buddies so that we change it up a little bit. And certainly, the different legs, you know, when we pass through North America the first time, we’ll probably – or rather the second time, we’ll probably change it up before we come back to a city."

And, finally: [Question] "Sort of following up on a previous question, with so much high grade talent on the bill, is there any opportunity that you guys might allow somebody to sit in with you during your set? Or if not, would you consider sitting in with one of the younger bands if you have time?

Stewart Copeland: Now that thought had not occurred to me, but it’s not a bad idea actually. Who you got in mind?

Aaron Kayce: You know, there’s any number of people, maybe (Jackie White) would want to join you.

Stewart Copeland: Who?

Aaron Kayce: (Jack White).

Stewart Copeland: Don’t know who that is, but …

Aaron Kayce: The White Stripes guitar player.

Stewart Copeland: Yes, cool. Yes, send him over. Come on down.

Aaron Kayce: Is that something you all would be open to though?

Stewart Copeland: I am. And like I said several times today I want the rules to be completely different for The Police for that one show. And you send that guy over and we’ll give him an amp.

Aaron Kayce: I wish I could.

Stewart Copeland: We’ll give him Andy’s amp."

Hahaha, priceless....bless you Stewart....every fiber of your being!!!! <grin>

Any bets?? <grin> [Warning: totally unsubstantiated assertion ahead!] I'd put money WSP, last show of Roo...it's a long jammy thing, it leaves enough time to get to Phx for the show the next night, they're buddies, etc. <grin>

I dunno. Much as I love the White Stripes, their thing is more of an Americana vibe...would Meg worry Stewart would overshadow her? It'd be a valid concern. (I hear their recent set here in town was a barnburner. Can't wait to see 'em.)

I have the feeling that, if Stew were to sit in with someone, it either wouldn't be announced or they'd post it on that message board I mentioned. But sure, checking the message boards and then sending a text would be greatly appreciated, folks.

I'll try to get online at night, but we're staying at a hotel out in Manchester that will likely only have dialup internet access so I probably won't be able to post photos. I'll sure try, though.

Ya, surely Dive...the White Stripes quote was about who might join the Police on stage and just Jack was mentioned, athough just in a "cool idea" not like "it's gonna happen" way...

There's three things I see here: who might join the Police on stage, who Stewart may sit in for a song with, and which bands Stewart would be checking out (not that I would want to bother him but only because I would like to see the band/s he's into!)

What I meant with "WSP" was Wide Spread Panic...but just entertining myself, really, until huby gets home from teaching and we can pack up the wagon <grin> I've already gone to yoga and advanced step today and that didn't take the wind outta my sails even...how ami gonna spend the next few hours??? <giggle>

ONE MORE DAY TILL BONNAROOO!!!!! Cy'all tomorrow!!!! Travel safely, and drive extra-carefully into Roo vicinity--been hearing many stories of extra pullings-over in the area!!

You wanna hear some great news? The weather here is *perfect*. It's in the mid-80s, not too humid, just lovely. Here's hoping it holds for the next few days.

Wow! Yep, here it is upon us...I've gotta get serious about packing! Had a couple emergency calls from contractors working on my dad's old house this morning and thought I'd have to drop everything and head to Kentucky, but luckily I think that storm is going to blow over, too.

Cheers to that!!!!

Re: White Stripes tour, they are playing MSG later in July and Nick Cave's side band (Nick plus 3 bad seeds) are freaking opening for them (Grinderman is only playing 4 shows in the US total)...aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

That's the downside to being a huge music fan, isn't it? You just can't go to *everything*.

(I've got a couple local conflicts with Police gigs later this month. I'm missing a huge Dynamites show and Raul Malo...but what are you gonna do...)

Inforoo update: the gates are already open at Bonnaroo! Apparently folks who got there early were making a ruckus in the Wal-Mart parking lot....

(No worries. They'll fill up the back 40 first. So you'll probably get a better camping spot arriving a bit later.)

Haha, a ruckus in the Wal Mart parking lot...this is starting to sound like Alice's Restaurant <grin>...It's no surprise that people are already there...I mean they've been counting down to it since the last one! But I did hear about them letting people in early (but in the furthest places), haha but I'd bet they're happy to be in, distance be damned! Maybe if we cruise into town tomorrow we'll get great spots <grin>

Judgment call: here's the hat I'm planning to wear....

Am I going to lose pins? Should I put them on something else?

(OTOH, what's the point having them if I can't wear them for a special occasion...? ;))
