Bonnaroo: Special Police Ideas

I have a few ideas swimming around in my head for Bonnaroo. Not that it would happen, but I had to put em down.

1. Masoko Tanga (or Regatta) Extended Improv Jam (maybe with Ziggy Marley freestyle vocals?)

2. One World w/ Ziggy Marley (since they did it on the reggae tribute cd)

3. Truth His Everybody w/ White Stripes

4. ANY STEWART COPELAND WRITTEN MATERIAL FROM ANY POLICE ALBUM!

5. Visions Of The Night

6. Deathwish, Omegaman

Anyone else? Quickly just in case Stew reads this for any last minute ideas! :roll:

Ok how about covering/jamming one of the following.

Dark Star or Box of Rain.

Better yet (since they sort of have that police sound) Fire on the Mountain or Scarlet Begonias. That crowd would FLIP THE FUCK OUT.

Haha, although Stewart thought it was cool that Oysterhead was being compared to a contemporary Grateful Dead in terms of its jam band status, I distinctly remember Stewart saying in an interview <rustles around some more> that he used to hate the Grateful Dead (and Airplane, etc.)...but liked the Doors and Hendrix... so I don't really ever imagine seeing them do Dead songs...not that I wouldn't love to hear them since I followed the Dead for like almost 10 years, was a a Summer Tour warrior, but just don't think that's gonna happen...I could be wrong <grin> Then again, I'd bet he has gone back to some things that were just rejected in the punk-ethos...

Les is on tour and is booked during Roo and Trey has other things to take care of, otherwise that would have been unbelievably cool...The Ziggy ones would be super-owny, imo...

I do think JPJ joining the Police would be awesome...then maybe with a ?uestlove & Stewart drum-off <grin> and a ensemble-cast So Lonely ala Frejus <giggles wildly>

haha cool! Jerry's last show was mine and then I went back to college. :)

I do think Ornette Coleman will probably pop up during the show.

I'm hoping to see Stewart onstage with Wayne Coyne at least once this weekend. Ooooh! Ooooooh! Drum-off between Stewart and Glenn Kotche of Wilco, my two favorite drummers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(failing all this, a Stewart-vocal version of 'Does Everyone Stare' - of course. ;))

OK: I have really dug the Flaming Lips since Soft Bulletin and Yoshmi Battles the Pink Robots but I've never seen them live...I just watched a film about them on Sundance called Fearless Freaks that was really pretty amazing...I think the Police and Flaming Lips would be unbelievably strange but so super freaking cool, especially since they are slated to play after the Police in the 12-2 slot...and if Andy's in Idaho that night it would work beautifully <grin>

I've told this story a couple times before, so I'll try to edit.

I grew up in Kansas, not far from where the Flaming Lips are based (Oklahoma City). They played my hometown A LOT, starting in about 1985...I've seen them at least two dozen times. Met everyone in the band a few times, too...

Stewart would like Wayne Coyne. I have the definite feeling.

(I do wish the Lips would go back to the sound of my favorite of their discs, 'Hit to Death in the Future Head' and 'Priest Driven Ambulance,' from the early 90s...but the new stuff's fun too.)

Might be a stretch but...

After they have already taken bows and gone off stage, they come back out and do an encore doing a jam of 'The other way of stopping.' I have loved this as the ending to the Zenyatta album for so many years. It would be natural to hear it live as they finish for the night.

It would go like this..

They go thru the changes, jam it out, taking a few improv liberties along the way. At the end, just like the album, Sting and Stew would fade out at the end and walk off stage, and Andy is left chiming out the final chords. He plays the last chord, sets the guitar down as it is still ringing, and walks off.

Andy Summers used to scare the crap out of me as a kid with his derranged writing! Between 'behind my camel' and 'mother' I had to keep all the lights on. Scary music for a little kid!:shock:

Now that I'm a little older, I can appreciate them as unique compositions. They are both totally amazing sonic assults on the ears (in a good way).
