So...Who's going to the FIRST concert????

Postby Divemistress of the Dark on 28 Jan 2007 04:46

Y'all are just going to die when I tell you this - I just came from a concert in Knoxville, Tennessee, where I glimpsed the organizer of Bonnaroo - just as he disappeared down a staff-only stairwell! AGGGH! Cause you know what? I sure would have asked if he'd give me a hint whether you-know-who is going to headline you-know-what. ;)

OK, another question: Soon, we will know the list of tourdates. Anyone got thoughts as to where the boys will start? U.S.? Canada? South America? Australia? Europe?

Who all is seriously considering buying a plane ticket to wherever, just to get to see the first public Police show since 1983????? I know I sure am!

(Because otherwise it is going to be pure torture to read secondhand accounts of concerts and not be able to go until way later...also it'd be just my luck to buy a ticket to one of the last concerts and have something happen to cancel it...

Geez, I'm praying it won't be a week I'm otherwise committed to something I just can't get out of...or somewhere I can't get a flight to!!)

I'm praying that I can AFFORD it... I mean, airplane tickets, concert tickets... Might skip hotels though.
I hope they play in Europe. Would be relieving for me at least.

I'm still working on permission to go to Bonnaroo, I got a yes... but only if I can get my bf to go with me. Seems I'll hurt myself if I don't have a man to protect me, whatever. So I don't see getting to go out of the country.

So of coarse I vote for the US.

So why didn't you go after him?

Seeing as I've already flown cross country to see dada, I have no qualms with hopping a flight anywhere in the continental U.S. to see The Police. If they didn't come here, I don't know, that would be iffy.

And I hope they play the U.S. last, I want them all warmed up and ready to end the tour in a blaze of glory. I say our nation's capitol would be a good place to end it. Well, maybe for selfish reasons, as I'm only 3 hours away from D.C.

Well, now, I don't know when or where, but for sure I'll be there...

I want to hear and see The Police's drum and also all its unique sound.

I've already been making plans to travel to go with some friends of mine in different places. I won't go nuts about getting to the first show unless it's somewhere sort of near where I'm at.

I've already scoped out plane tickets and room nights in London in case the July 21st Wembley date is for real. And I've been working as much OT as possible to save up for them, I already have enough to pay for the plane and room, just wish I knew how much more I need to save for tickets.

I probably wouldn't do that for a festival date, not unless festivals are all they're playing.

I wouldn't worry about that being the case, ceebab. That's why I'm not going too nuts or planning on Bonnaroo...

The "staff-only stairwell" part. The dude who runs 'Roo is by all accounts a great guy, and I've met him once or twice...but I don't know anybody at this venue in K'ville and I didn't want to be a jerk trying to bust into access-only rooms. Besides, that would have been kind of obnoxious, and he'd have been more likely to tell me to get lost than to say anything else.

Still, it hurt, because hub said he'd been standing behind me at the merch table for the band I went to see (Yo La Tengo) for a good ten minutes before I noticed him. I have no idea why hub didn't poke me and point, because he KNOWS we're all dying to start making plans to see the Police. There's no guarantee I'd have gotten any info out of Mr. Organizer other than a knowing wink, but still...Hub is going to have to be pretty nice to me this week to make up for it! :)

I'll probably go to Bonnaroo, since I live an hour away and have a place to stay. I may spring for the higher-priced VIP tickets, although I'm going to wait and see what they cost this year. I'll probably also go to another show, also, if there's any promise of seeing our boys in a venue that houses fewer than 50,000 people.

It does depend on where that first show is for me too, though. My guess is that it'll be in either NYC or L.A. I've got a place to crash in NYC, and the Hoodoo Gurus are playing there in March...I'll never get lucky enough they'll play the same week, though. I'll probably be in London in April (will let folks know so we can meet up if so) although it'd be a miracle if I happened to be there the week they played the Hammersmith or something. (I may swing by anyway, as I understand it is due to be demolished that month...)

I reckon they should start the tour in London. Obviously this is, at least in part, for my own selfish reasons but also because that's where the band began. Imagine if they did a secret gig at The Hope & Anchor! Neeeeever going to happen though. I'd guess Albert Hall at the smallest and the new Wembley Stadium as the big option.

By the way, if it does turn out to be at Wembley Stadium and some of you guys are coming over, bear in mind that Wembley is a long way out of the centre of London. You'd want to get a hotel relatively near by. Not too near though - Wembley is a bit grim!

Hey Hannaha, the hotels I have been looking at are in Kensington. On the map I was using, it looked like Kensington is kind of half way between the center area and Wembley. Is that about right? Also, is it a decent area?

Kensington is gorgeous - you'd be fine there. If you want to stay in town (which would obviously be more fun!) then stay somewhere that is accessible to Marylebone Station as that's where you'd catch the train to Wembley. You can view tube and train maps at www.tfl.gov.uk to give you an idea of where things are.

And OF COURSE, I'd be more than happy to play tour guide! Between us we could work out a little Police tour of London and go and check out some of the key spots.

Just noticed this out of the Fox News item earlier about the Grammy performance...

And — surprise of surprises — this should guarantee an announcement forthcoming of a huge North American tour, followed by dates in Europe, all beginning in late spring.

So. If this is correct, they may indeed start on this side of the pond...UK dates later in the summer, which would be smart, since it'll be cooler there at that time of year.

I'll be at the first show, no matter when, no matter where.

Divemistress, can you explain more about Bonnaroo? Do you HAVE to camp? Can you come and go? Do people get in front of the main stage first thing and then never leave? I'm considering it, but I've never been to a festival.
