OT- Reflections on being 50

OT- Reflections on being 50

Postby vespapod on 01 May 2012 17:25

This is from a conversation from a variety of doctors in various specialties at my local hospitals lounge one day...I snooped in and tried to keep my big mouth shut(very difficult) but in essence they all came to the conclusion that the human animal is designed to live to 50 years old. The aging process actually begins in the circulatory system and we start rusting out as soon as we are born. Anything over the age of fifty we should consider "banked time" from living a good life...eating good food...happiness...whatever. So for those of you past this stage of life or approaching it I guess enjoy every day as soon as you wake up..its extra time on the clock so to speak.

I myself never felt my age (50) and am very glad to live a busy life. I gotta learn to lighten up on the little shit crap in life that I can dwell too much on (sockii needs to do this too!) and just live it up. Basically i want to wake up...have a good bowel movement...shave without cutting myself and ruining a dress shirt...go to work safely avoiding soccer moms in oversized SUV's.... have a busy day day at the office or hospital....go home safely....have a kickass sockii culinary delight....play with the cats....and go to bed....thats not too much to ask for.

Thanks for this point to ponder, vespa. I'm a proud (if somewhat confused as in "how did I get here?") member of this club and find myself saying the Serentiy Prayer ("God grant me the serenity...") too often. Seize The Day!

I'm turning what seems like an impossible age this week as well (hey, sock & Policerule! Taurus rules ;) Just keep telling myself, 'it beats the alternative'....every day above ground is a good day, no?

I say Hooray and congrats for reaching an age when you can just enjoy life as it is. I know I feel much better about myself and my direction in life at 40 than I ever have. I'm looking forward to 50 and beyond (although I wish I could still look like I did at 20).

Damn, Vespa... I want your outlook on age!

If anyone starts telling me that the gray hair is some sort of badge of life, they're getting smacked though.

Cheers Dive and Sock... they are coming in quick!

It does not hurt, V. One becomes a much better person with age. That is, if you are not fixated on looks and appearances. Simplicity and serenity are the most important things in life. Usually this concept is discovered and grasped too late.
