Awesome news and thanks to Vaughn for the heads up (here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11306)!

Hot Head Show is coming to the states with Les Claypool!

http://www.myspace.com/hotthedd

So who's in?

I just bought a pair of tickets to the Montclair NJ show -- even though I have no fucking clue how to get there from Philly...it just figures the Brooklyn date is when I'm supposed to close on the sale of my Philly place, and the Atlantic City show is when I'm supposed to show face at a wedding...the June 5 date is the only one I can possibly swing at this point. Even as I don't want to think how insane I'm going to be at that time with moving...

I'm in for damn sure. Let's figure out what dates most ppl can make; I'm tempted to shoot for Covington, KY or Pittsburgh, both of which are Southwest Airlines cities, but I can probably do AC or NJ. (Actually, tho, Covington's only about a six hour drive from here...maybe I'll do two)

ETA: YA.......HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! This is gonna kick ass, pure and simple.

Are these GA or do we get assigned seats? GA would be much better for obv reasons...front row & rowdy)

Well it turns out I might be able to do Brooklyn as well after all, if others are going, as the f#$ers who were supposed to close on my house on that date backed out today.

But I'm definitely in for NJ now, no matter what. Even if I'm not quite celebrating the fact so much at the moment.

Oh no!!! Backed out?! I'll go catch up over at LJ.

Personally, my objection to any NYC-area show is the spendiness of the hotels. Although flights aren't too bad from here (and we could always pile two or three people up in a room). And a bunch of our number live there, so rustling up a crowd would be pretty easy.

ETA: Hm. And the Covington date is the first day of Bonnaroo - it'd be tough to swing that...

Nope. No dates near Da Family.

They're allergic to Mississippi like Fikschun Plain.

Hot(head) digitty! The only shows I could possibly make would be Montclair or AC on the weekend of June 5-6. I can't take off during the week. I'd love to hear them live, though.

I'd be in for sharing a hotel room if anyone was interested.

I was already in for Claypool in Montclair. This just makes it way more interesting.

Dive, for the Montclair venue (Wellmont Theater) there are 2 sets of GA: GA floor and GA balcony. (Per husband's preference, Mo and I have GA balcony.) So it's first come-first served, just depends if you want to sit or stand.

ETA: For anyone considering the Brooklyn Bowl by public transport, note that it can be a real arse to get to (L and G trains are low on the fabulousness/reliability scale). Doable, just be prepared. (I may consider ducking in for part of that show, but I won't know til way later.)

I did balcony as well. I'm not keen on pit crowds at Claypool shows.

Total list of dates:
Jun 5 20109:00P
Wellmont Theatre w/ Les Claypool MONTCLAIR, NJ
Jun 6 2010 9:00P
House of Blues w/ Les Claypool ATLANTIC CITY, NJ
Jun 8 2010 9:00P
Brooklyn Bowl w/ Les Claypool BROOKLYN, NY
Jun 9 2010 9:00P
Palace Theater w/ Les Claypool PITTSBURGH, PA
Jun 10 2010 9:00P
Madison Theater w/ Les Claypool COVINGTON, KY

Hm. Unless HHS joins Claypool at Bonnaroo (who the heck knows), the 5th actually works best for me and it looks like Southwest flies into Newark, but I know zilch about that area. Is there public transit to the venue? Or is a car rental indicated? I'm sure there are hotels around...? My SIL lives in Hoboken so maybe Pullet will want to tag along for a visit, esp. since that's a weekend.

ETA: Squee! A show with Sock and DM and Moe! That'd be pretty kickass even if the band(s) sucked...which they won't

If you fly into Newark you can rent a car at the airport there easy enough. From Newark proper I believe there are some bus routes going to Montclair, but I'm not sure how frequently or late they run.

I hadn't really made travel plans yet myself as I'm not sure if vespa is gonna be up for it...if so we'll drive up from Philly, otherwise I probably need to figure out connections from Newark myself.

FYI the "pittsburgh" show is not really in Pittsburgh - the Palace Theater is in lovely downtown Greensburg, PA - about an hour east of Pittsburgh. Not exactly a thriving hotbed of culture, although the Palace has been aggressive in booking shows lately. Also, no real public transportation there from the PIT airport.

Hey, I live just across the Ohio fron Covington KY, and I am 'Hedding' to the show!
So, I could put-up up to 4, or possibly 5, Nutters who'd be interested in attending. Or, I could give folks some lodging pointers and pre-show meet-up ideas, if any of y'all end here for the 10 June show.
This is a great rehabbed theatre, in the downtown area of Covington KY, just across form downtown Cincinnati. F=I got to see the Pschedelic Furs play here 2 1/2 years ago, I mean I was right there in front of the Butler Brothers, fabulous!!
If anyone is thinking of going to the 10 April show, email me at the santahawk63@yahoo.com address the Nutters were using for the Merry Holiday list.

HAH--Just in case anyone has missed any of my self-deliberation, usually resulting in me talking myself into some caper or another...I present:

Well, I'll be at a conference in Pittsburgh from 6/3-6/6, but am thinking...hrmm...since I've got to head to Bonnaroo on 7/10, perhaps an interlude involving Brooklyn before making my way directly to TN...would hate for Pcat to have to pack for Roo by his lonesome...but...perhaps can have the car ready before? HAH

Oh, and be careful eating at an Italian restaurant a block down the street from the Wellmont. Iit was NYE, it must be said (which, if you have ever been involved in the restaurant business is ass-over-teakettle night), but the night we saw Yo La Tengo and the Feelies there PCat got food poisoning eating--get this--pasta sauteed with fresh tomatoes--and it took three days to get home...We were basically flipping a coin between that and the Ethiopian restaurant next door, shoulda woulda coulda <grin>

I think I can swing Montclair, NJ. It may be doable by public transportation (at least getting there) although it may involve a cab ride. I'll have to research it some more. And it'll probably require an overnight stay. It can't be any worse than the trip I made to Asbury Park over the weekend to see The Indigo Bellydancers, led by Rachel Brice from the Belly Dance Superstars, at Asbury Lanes. I took the train to DC, took the Megabus to Philly from DC ($1.00 fare, woooooo!!!!!!), then had to take 3 different trains from Philly to Long Branch, NJ via NJ Transit (about $25) and then a $15.00 cab ride to the bowling alley for the show. The bus driver on the Megabus forgot to stop in Philly (they just started the DC/Philly service a few weeks ago) so we had to backtrack to Philly via Camden, NJ (the horrors!!!!!) but it was all worth it! The Indigo's Le Serpent Rouge show was terrific!!!!!
