Stewart and Jeff in Düsseldorf

Stewart and Jeff in Düsseldorf

Postby Dietmar on 01 Aug 2009 21:11

I don't have much time...
slept 5 hours last night, went to work, went to Düsseldorf, met Stewart and Jeff, watched about half of Ben Hur Live (incl. Stewart music and narration), went back to Stewart and Jeff, took train home, showered, posted on facebook, uploading photos on flickr.com right now (search for 2009 08 01 Düsseldorf Stewart Copeland or something like that)
4 hours left until I have to get up again for another early shift

HAW!! Jeff looks so serious in that last shot. Also - STEWART, ya gotta quit smoking, man. What's it gonna take? We've been posting sternly worded messages for years. ;)

Thanks a mil, D, and also to Tama for posting the handy linkage. Can't wait to hear more.

First of all I wanted to express and renew all my gratitude for Dietmar's treat.

It is NOT easy, Dive...Trust one who made it Cold Turkey. If he did not quit knowing his family history...It takes a huge inner motivation and a couple of years in hell, unless you move to San Francisco, where it is practically impossible to smoke if you're not a bum or a crack fiend in the Tenderloin. :x

I actually saw Dietmar's pictures on flickr before coming here. What a pleasant surprise that was! Well, except for the smoking part. yuck. Not sexy at all Stewart.

Thanks for posting them for us to see, Dietmar, especially when you seem to be so busy.

Thanks for the quick report and pics, Dietmar! You the man!
Great to hear things are progressing well for BH.
I'm sure that show is going to be a trip!

(Glad he's got the La Jolla drums there for a bit of a practice - the Blue Bell Ride's in the kit!)

Re: smoking

Yeah, I did see him smoking in Italy (he was enabled my a Nutter  ). Smoking is much more prevalent there than it is here. It could be an environmental thing. Regardless...nasty habit Stewart!! Thank of your family! Ok, done preaching.
Stewart and Stanley together again!! YO!

Thanks for the report and photos.

I appreciate that we were able to get anything under those circumstances but would love to hear more details.

those past two days were not too bad

on Friday I received that much talked about galley of Stewart's book "Strange Things Happen"
after fast-forwarding through some chapters I can say that there's a lot to like there
I didn't read everything yet, but especially the relationship to Sting and Andy during the reunion tour is an interesting topic
could have been 1000 pages, for all I wanted to read about...

about Düsseldorf:

most pressing questions on facebook were if there would be a book tour / an audio book

Stewart will record an audio version of his book
there won't be much of a tour, but there will probably be appearances (NY/LA?)

the Ben Hur Live rehearsal was fascinating
Babylon live could have been another name - you could hear English, German, Italian, Russian voices... and probably some more

the rehearsal was without costumes or real props - some breaks for technical reasons
but still fascinating, large and all the time a bit cheesy, too
music was fine, Stewart knows how to write score to express emotions - and his Arabian influences seemed to make him the perfect guy for this
the technical stuff was interesting - how DO they do a sea battle in a "small" arena?
you'll see...

they could have saved some money, though, if they had just hired Stewart to write the score, do the narration and perform everything himself with his body language!

now I've GOT to work

Based on your opinion of the rehearsal, I take it you'll be joining us for the London premier, Dietmar ;)

Thanks for taking the time to post the recap with the answers to the pressing questions posted by Us nutters on Facebook.

Thanks so much for all the info and pictures, Dietmar. I'm glad that the galley ended up in your safe hands. The news about the audio book is exciting. It was extremely cool of Stewart and Jeff to let you see behind the curtain of Ben Hur. And you cracked me up with the line about Stewart performing the whole thing with all his body language.
Thanks Dietmar! Thanks Stewart!
