Atlanta !

The GWTW museum is less than 2.5 miles from the venue! I really MUST go to Atlanta now!

I don't have tickets yet, but I'm working on it.

Anyone need a roommate? Female only, please. I don't smoke or snore (which is more than I can say for my roommate in Vancouver - the snoring part!)

I'd probably fly in on the 16th and out on the 19th, but it depends on flight prices.

I may have to stay with my family, OG - but I'll get it all sorted and let you know if I'm hotel-bound.

(I've been meaning to get down there to visit one of my cousins in particular for just ages and she may really insist on my staying in her guest room...which wouldn't be too awful, since she lives in something of a mansion...)

The funniest thing on the Atlanta Synchronicity Concert tape is in my opinion the moment Stewart throws up his drumsticks and get them in his face while he looks above to see where they might have been.... I did see it after a couple of times watching the tape. In Amsterdam on 13/09 he made a joke with the public in The ArenA when he walked from his percussion rig to his drums. He smacked his mallets into the air and with a funny face he covered his head with his hands, following by laughing, which was responding by the public with yelling!

Yeah, I was really falling out of my chair when I saw Atlanta at first. Stewart in top shape! Amazing, still nowadays! Stings' voice was not in that kind of top shape, if you honestly ask me (In Amsterdam last Thursday his voice was better than I ever heard). Also great work by Godley & Creme.

Tough, I see some differences in Stewarts' playing now and then. He's less agressive and hardhitting on the drums. I think he's now (even) more subtle, technical and dynamic than back in 1983!

Don't forget me guys! I wanna hang too! :( I still want to try and plan a pre-show gathering. Any ATL natives want to work on this together?

I have been to the Aquarium already several times and it is wonderful. Make sure you get tickets in advance online and either go real early or late. It gets swamped mid-day.

I am going to the first Police show on Saturday only. Blue Man Group also plays that night in Atlanta btw, so if you're going only to the Sunday Police show, why not catch BMG on Saturday?

If you guys want to meet up down by the venue or just out somewhere we can do that. The Hard Rock cafe may be a good spot to meet or the CNN center right across from Philips Arena. There's a food courtyard and a few restaurants to sit down in.

BTW Philips arena sits on the same location where the Omni (83 show) was. In 1987 while visiting Atlanta I walked through it and it seemed pretty big. They demolished it all awhile ago and made Philips arena and other things. The Omni hotel is still there of course.
Anyone coming to Atlanta who wants to do stuff like IKEA and the Georgia Aquarium? The Aquarium is one of the best in the world - no fooling. It'd be well worth your time to check it out. We may want to organize a small-scale fan field trip to see it.

Thing is, it's usually crowded, so we'd need to plan to go early in the morning, etc. I'll volunteer to look into group tix, if anyone's interested.

I suspect most of us going to these gigs are driving and/or have been here before, so maybe a really organized thing won't be necessary, but Atlanta can be intimidating for folks who've not visited.
Dive, I don't fly in until 2:15 pm on Sunday afternoon & then I fly out at 2:55 pm on Monday afternoon so I won't have a lot of time but let me know what excursions you end up planning. I will rent a car. I wanted to spend more time in Atlanta but have too much going on & won't be able to do it on this trip. Anyone have any good suggestions on where to stay?

BEWARE: Atlanta has truly hideous traffic. Seriously - it's on par with Washington D.C. or some other huge city. Be sure to plan out your route and avoid interstates if at all possible, and try not to travel during rush hour.

All that said, I'm sure there'll be some options on Priceline for areas near the arena...I usually stay with family when I'm there, so I'm no help, but I'm sure someone here will be.

Thanks for checking in CP! Hard Rock sounds good to me...

Hey Dive!
If you can keep me posted on the Atlanta going ons. Right now I have tickets to Sat and Sun. Still up in the air for Sat. I am definitely going to the show on Sun. I have family in Atlanta also, so I am waiting to see if my cousin will be in town while I am there. I will check with her closer to the date, she travels a lot. But I would love to meet up with everyone before the show. The Georgia Aquarium sounds fantastic too. I'll continue to check here. There's great reading here!
p.s. If you have your South America photos posted somewhere let me know, I would love to see them.

Hey there Trudie!! Welcome aboard!! I'm way behind on posting trip pix, but I'll try to get some done this week sometime.

Must-dos for me in Atlanta usually include the King Center (area near the childhood home of Dr. Martin Luther King); the Carter Center (Presidential library for former President Carter); the Aquarium; and IKEA. There's also a great part of town known as Little Five Points, where there's a fab record store and some cute boutiques and whatnot.

Outlando and I are hot on the trail of some awesome tix for the 18th... There is some public transit in Atlanta, but I'd recommend staying near the venue if possible (what do you think, CP?) I'm going to try to write up something of a FAQ for folks from out of town, but I'm not going to be home till tomorrow so it may be a couple days.
