Today Luciano Pavarotti died from pancreatic cancer. His beautiful singing lives on. Here's a nice commemorative article from the BBC:

The original leaves the imitators behind.

He was a great. I was on the phone with my family yesterday night when he died. I am not an opera aficionado, but he could send chills through your spine even if you didn't like the gendre.
Like all great personalities, he wasn't an easy person to work with. But he has done a lot with his benefit shows Pavarotti and friends.

I expect Sting and Trudi to take a break from the tour and go to the funeral. They said many rock stars will attend today on CNN International.

Luciano Pavarotti was great. I surely will miss him.
Now I really have to treasure my "Pavarotti & friends" albums. Actually I will listen to them right now .

Probably the "greatest" musical voice of all time...I was able to see him once in 1998 for 500 dollars a ticket (no stub hub back then)...I went hans solo, then go to dinner across the street at "Upstairs at Villares" and as I am wolfing down dinner I see him and Riccardo Muti having a nightcap....did get a smile from both of them (no shoutout) but was definately one of the great musical thrills of my life.

Modena

Hi everybody; you can easily imagine that today our tv broadcasted so much of il Maestro Luciano Pavarotti.
I saw him with Sting in Modena, they were very close each other.

The funeral will be on Saturday afternoon in Modena, a couple of hours south of Milano.
I guess Sting could be there, and fly back later in the afternoon to Uk to play, but I guess The Police show should be delayed for a while...let's see. I wouldn't be surprised if he will fly here and get back to Uk to play.

I couldn't understand why the BBC radio news was playing a recording of the maestro at 7am today when I switched on. It was from the very early 80's, and his voice was incomparable then.

I knew he was terribly ill, but so sad. Every art needs great exponents who have the charisma to draw in new people. He was doing that even when his voice was past its peak. And that is a brave thing to do.
