You massage horses and their riders? How did you end up in such a profession? ...I've never even heard of it.
Yep, that's right, horses/ponies plus their riders. Mainly because the riders if unbalanced will screw up the balance of the horse/pony while being ridden. You wouldn't even begin to believe how uneven most people are, nor how amazing bodies compensate and adapt to uneven loads. What's reflected in the horse is often reflected in the rider and vice versa.
Ask Mardee, I've always been a horse nut. I've wanted to massage for a long, long time, as the horses always seemed to have a harsh go of it with poor saddle fit, packing novices, cranked into weird positions for competitions, etc. Had to wait for the field to grow, but finally was able to take my certification in shiatsu in 2003 ~ yipppeee!!!
Coolest thing about horses/ponies ~ no placebo affect
That means it has to work, or they tell ya otherwise. Best thing I've done among the many is to rotate a clubfooted mare's leg. In other words, she was injured very badly as a foal, and wound up with a very bad hoof injury that made her clubfooted, and the whole leg twisted as a result. Poor girl. After two massages, I was able to remove the limp from her gaits ~ really funny watching her have to relearn how to walk again!
Most fulfilling is the pain relief for both people and the horses. That's just the coolest thing!
