Is this the Compromise Tour?

Is this the Compromise Tour?

Postby TheEqualizer on 09 Jul 2007 01:26

One of the things I have really like about this tour is that it really seems like Sting has not put anhy restrictions on Stewart "overplaying" (or as the rest of the world would say, displaying his true genius). Also, Sting seems to have no problem with letting Andy really stretch out, like on Driven to Tears and Voices/ When the World (as opposed to on Ghost, when Andy had his solos severely truncated).

HOWEVER, I feel that this is not Sting just trying to making up for past mistakes. My sense is that he did this so that he could redo songs how he wants them done (like Don't Stand and the slowing of Truth Hits).

This is just speculation. Does anyone else have this sense?

Also, do you think that the change in the beginning of Every Little Thing and Invisible Sun are concessions by Sting to Andy as these were essentially solo songs by Sting on Ghost and he was finally willing to let Andy put his own stamp on these songs? Or are the changed completely Sting driven to make up for the lack of keyboards live?

Thoughts?

Hmmm....

Broken Democracies survive on wheeling and dealin' : And our three boys do that all the time. Just read the MOJO artivcle and Stew says that he wakes up in the morning saying to himself "give Sting what he wants...because when he isn't right he ends up realising it himself"..Now that is strategique !!

Also have you noticed how many songs statrt with Andy alone :

Message,
Sync
Every little
Beds
Invisible
Roxanne
Can't...

I believe this is Sting's strategie to make sure that Andy, and not Stewart, choses the tempo, mostly because Andy's effects depend on Tempo delays, and that with the backing vocal samples used...they have to play it at the right speed.

There is compromise across the board, including in the direction of Stew to Sting. It's an "older and wiser" thing, as far as I'm concerned. It's just music; there are so many better things to argue about and put your energy and passion toward than convincing someone to add another four measures to a solo. :)

Everything that's been said has some measure of truth in it, but to me this is three guys who have grown up.....and they want to play together again with this new awareness. I saw them twice in L.A. and they looked like they were having the time of their lives! It was wonderful to see. Sting was all over Andy during both shows...playing back-to-back, sometimes Sting resting his head on Andy's shoulder while they got lost in the moment. Stewart with the biggest smile on the planet as he pounded away at his kit. I have met all three guys, and they are so completely charming. As all three have said, the supposed "fighting" in the group was a bit overplayed in the press. Most likely because the press had nothing else really to go on...they we'ren't druggies or boozers or child molesters. They just played music. And they've come back to play for us again.
