Okay, so I think I see some trends now. Looking at this list, Police fans tend to group into one of five categories.

- '80s People.
You just love bands from the time period of 1980-1985 or so. Considering I was a member of the high school class of 1986, I see where you're coming from. The styles may be diverse -- Journey, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, INXS, Duran Duran, Prince -- but the timing's the same.

- Popsters.
You dig the bands that really made a popular impact at the time. You like Fleetwood Mac, Michael Jackson, U2, the Eagles, and so on.

- Alternatives.
You dug the Police because of their early underground nature, and therefore you like Radiohead, the Clash, the Replacements, the Smiths, Sonic Youth, Blur, Eels, and the rest.

- Musicheads.
You love the musicianship and or songwriting capabilities of the Police. You also like Rush, Zappa, Dream Theater, Steely Dan, and more. The songwriting fans in this subgroup like Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and the others.

- All of the Aboves.
Yeah, that's where most of us really are.

:)

The Ruts
The Cribs

I LOVE Joy Zipper.
I tried to keep it to all-time favourites ever which meant leaving out a lot of bands I love. My list would be endless otherwise. I guess all of our lists would be, right?
Oh MAN I forgot Dinosaur Jr!!!

James Brown (especially the original JB's with Bootsy)
John Coltrane
Miles Davis
Frank Zappa
The Police

Those are the upper echelon.

Honorable mentions:

ZZ Top (pre-MTV)
Talking Heads
Van Halen (Roth)
Sex Pistols (go listen to "Bodies" on repeat until you're re-educated about what true "rebellion" sounds like :o...also the only band that could drop the F-bomb five times in one sentence and make it work )
The Cars
The Beach Boys

Are we limiting our choices to rock,or can we put in jazz, elektronika and classical?
However  there are just 2 kinds of music: good and bad.
