Police rock 55,000 in L.A.
It is kind of a sad fact that the Rolling Stones-- who were around almost 20 years before the Police-- despite the fact that they are ancient and not nearly as skilled as musicians, still go out there and play rock and roll. Yet somehow, the Police are "too mature" for it, and we're all supposed to sit there and applaud with polite golf claps.
Thanks Wait and See, you get my drift. By reinterpreting the music in such a lounge-y way, they're kind of denying the relevancy of the original music. The Stones on the other hand, (whom I'm not a huge fan of) understand that a big part of what made them and their music important was the energy and angst. They are also committed to making sure that every person at every venue gets a good show. Sure, Andy is 64. So what??? 64 is the new 54, right? Give him a chair if that's what it takes to raise the energy level of the music. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, I noticed NO such lack of energy from Stewart.

Evolution is important and nobody gave a crap about "Flashdance" or half the drivel during the 80's. That's not the point. The point is that I was not expecting to be BORED at a Police show!

Sad...

The Stones just played a few gigs in Europe - and they sucked as bad as it gets! A friend of mine said - "Horrible but then they played Satsifaction and everything was alright!"
Now I rather watch a good band playing good songs on a pretty high level - with some peaks and some valleys instead of watchin a fucking geriatric freak show with a three minute long orgasm and the question "Wow was that really Keith Richards or just is Spitting Image Puppet?"

I would have gone for both concpets - a Police Tour 83 style and the one they do now. The retro show would be as good a party as it is now. But the way they do the 2007 Tour makes me think they have a future as a band, or lets say there is a possibility for a future - 1983 is too fucking long ago .. !

I'm listening to a boot of Dodgers right now -- first boot of the tour I've heard actually -- and I gotta say, I'm finding it to be pretty fucking Wow. Wow.

ETA: Andy's solo on World -- hot damn. (If anyone has it, at 5:42 (after the count-off) is that Stewart yelling a "HA!" of approval?) So far, I'm hearing quite a bit of energy coming out of Andy's fingers. I wasn't there in person, so I can't speak to the vibe obviously -- but damn, he sure is playing.

Andy opened "CSLY" with a riff from BONANZA and NO ONE mentioned this?!?

Man, I so wish I had seen this show.

OK, I realize that I keep adding posts to this thread -- apologies. I should have waited til I finished the boot to post at once. BUT I had to jump in again to say

LAZ!!! Remember that problem we were talking about getting back into the "Roxanne" chorus from the bridge? So much better now! They slow down for a sec to take a moment, then jump into the last chorus -- which seems to have been (someone check my work) sped up. Smooth! You were there so you already heard it, but I had to share my excitement at the discovery. Way cool.

Thank you, Stewart.

Have you seen the Stones, or are you basing this on what you experience on YouTube?

Man, it must suck to be you. Is there ANYTHING in your life that's exciting and worthwhile, or do you treat *everything* with the disdainful regard you hold for the Police?

How does your girlfriend/boyfriend/wife/husband feel about this? You know, they have quite effective meds to treat depression these days, right?

Uh...I'm a guy, fully hetero for what it's worth.

I've also heard this show now, and there is no question it is the best show they have done so far, by a mile. If you divide it into two aspects--what they're playing and how they're playing it-- how they're playing it is improving considerably. Some of the content is still weak though, IMO. I've made plenty of positive comments. Some people just don't want to hear any criticism at all.

By the way, your avatar is disturbing.

I didn't want to assume, nor pry into your privacy.

I don't mind criticism. Well, it doesn't matter to me; I'm not onstage, of course.

It's just two factors: 1) Most of what you've said was very incongruous with my own experience, and 2) You haven't seen the show yet!!!

But I do respect that different people can feel... different. If you like it, or don't like it, it's totally up to you, and I really hope you do enjoy the show that you'll possibly maybe see.

Now here's some wisdom: "The future is unwritten." Joe Strummer (RIP)
