Are there any Police drum tab books or tutorial DVDs etc?

Postby KaptainK on 21 Jun 2007 08:56

I fancy having a go at learning some of Stewart's drumming on the Police albums, are there any tab books or DVDs available anyone knows of? I've had a look on Amazon etc and can't find any.

(I know that there's drum tab on the net but most of it is inaccurate in my experience)

Thanks

Right now I'd say start with the latest issue of DRUM--with Stew on the cover. There are a few examples. Other than that, I've never seen any. Andy's done an instructional video. I think Stewart should be next.

There is a complete score book that came out of Japan a while ago that has drum transcriptions for a number of songs (basically the EBYT greatest hits collection from '86). Let me look it up tonight and I can try to get more info for ya on it.

Hi KaptainK, I have some old Modern Drummer & Rhythm magazines with some notation of only parts of one or two songs. You might be able to source these specific articles through the publisher(s) back-issue archives.
SpecA had posted a link to the Modern Drummer issue somewhere back in these threads. 8)

That'd be here:

The last 3 links are the drum notation for Roxanne.

As you already know there are no specific dvd on this issue, or at least you can check The Police Greatest Hits dvd with an extra section with the Police recording sessions in Montserrat for Ghost In The Machine, where you can see Stewart talking about his reggea technique.

I would also suggest you to check both Stewart following releases:
Orchestralli (cd + dvd) and La Notte Della Taranta (cd + dvd) where you can see Stewart drumming on something different than the Police and experimenting with different rhythmic areas.
