Stewart's New Ride Cymbal - "The Rhythmatist"?

Hi all,

I was at the Oakland show Wednesday night (my pics are in the Police Flickr group) and while watching the video feed noticed what at first glance seemed to be SC's old Paiste Colorsound 22" ride. I got lucky and had my binoculars trained on the screen when they flashed to him again and saw a big SC logo (on the polo horse) with the word "The Rhythmatist" and "Prototype" stamped near the bell in white.

I NEED this. Now<g>. When can I get it - it will complement my SC signature snare very nicely. Or hell - I may just hang it on the wall.

Anybody have any more info? It sounded FANTASTIC the other night.

Yeah, that is seriously a thing of beauty. I need one too (heck, maybe one for the wall and one for "play".)

Ok that pic rocks btw- But it looks to me like he has his double pedal to the left of the hat pedal?! Am I seeing that correctly? I don't know why, but I never thought of doing it that way- I can't wait to get home and experiment!

I was thinking that his hi-hat was a remote, because it appears that the drive shaft to the double pedal is attached to the pedal on the right. I just wish I could climb up there and do some experimenting!!

That answers a lot of questions. Paiste said he would be using a Signature Series Prototype (Blue) Ride for the tour. Later it was listed as a Dark Emergy Ride. When I saw him in Seattle (Didn't have a good view of the ride in Van) it appeared to be a regular ride from below with white lettering for PAISTE didn't seem to be colored on the underside.

Now this actually looks like a Dark Metal Ride with the middle made Blue.

As for getting one...it's a "Prototype" and there would have to be a determined market before they went into production. BAsed on the other Sig Rides probably around $450-500? Ater hearing it I love the sound...chanses are if thet don't make it you might get a similar sound form the Dark Metal ride?

On the pedal...yes, he's playing a Tama Cobra double Pedal. according to the DRUM! interview he "started a few years ago after seeing a youngster using one"

I don't see a Mac though...do you mean the Box of delay's and triggers with the set list on top?

Don't forget your Vater Stewart Copeland signature sticks!

Must say I never really went in for the Artist models on anything since most change endorcements more often than their underwear! It was always about the best equipment.

Stewart is the exception I would say...he's played Tama since the begining and Paiste almost that long. He lists Vater sticks in "Everyone Stares" even though they didn't officially become a company until 1990. I imagine he got custom sticks from Joe's Drum Shop in Boston which is of course where Vater came from.

His Snare sounded like a gunshot in concert! and his Ride shounded great! really cut through. i like the two ride setup he's using..allows a lot of flexability!

Ever since this tour thing started, I've seen Paiste change his setup at least three times!

The blue ride is wicked cool. It does indeed resemble the Dark Metal ride, which is really a reworked version of their discontinued Dark Dry ride (I have one of the last 22" that they offered). The bell and edge have been polished, but other than that, same cymbal, new name. Interesting that they left the bell and edge unpainted.

Is anyone else wondering why blue has become the new official color of Stewart Copeland?

Oh, and what the (beep) is up with the 12" hi-hats?

Still, if the ride becomes available, it will be mine (cue mad scientist laugh).

I believe Stewart used Regal Tip "Rock" sticks with a wood-tip up until the mid 90's. Speaking of Jack's Drum Shop and Vater, have you seen this...

Yep! On the Synchronicity tour he used a Paiste Formula 602 13-inch medium hi-hat
