I don't know if that's a plus side or not. The Police weren't always the tightest band (intonation, vocals, tempo variations.) The Police were the greatest band of their time (IMHO), ESPECIALLY when they were exploring. They all play great. I don't care if they don't stop at the same nanosecond. I want to see and feel and hear the energy that made me start to love the rock.
Yeah, agreed. I like the spontaneity of The Boys live. I think they do their best work live (which is saying something considering the high quality of the albums). Although historically they've prided themselves on a certain level of professional perfection, so I can understand the thinking.
I was thinking about this last night, and now I'm conflicted.
How many times have I seen, say, MacBeth performed? I've never complained that the script is the same each time because the script is brilliant and every performance is different. Every night, an actor -- or more specifically, a GOOD actor -- will bring in new ideas, go in different directions, hit on different nuances, etc. Even though the form follows the same pattern, the performance is never the same way twice.
So then why wouldn't the same hold true for The Police's performances? On the one hand, I'd like a variety of setlists because I want to see as much material as possible. On the other hand, I know that even if they follow the same overall list, the performance will always be different by the simple fact that the material is brilliant and these guys are excellent at what they do.
Of course, I'm still willing to lobby for a cover of "Hit Me, Baby, One More Time."
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.
