Stewart, I have a ridiculous request....

Stewart, I have a ridiculous request....

Postby cosplusisin on 01 Mar 2007 16:52

perfectly understandable if you say "forget you, clown", but...

ok, well.. back when I was little (in the mid 1980s), my mom listened to The Police a lot, and therefore my sisters and I also did. Our favourite song was "Walking on the Moon". I was 4 or 5, and it was the weekend before I started school.. before I started Kindergarten. Well my older sister started singing to me (to the tune of walking on the moon):

"Andrew's going to kindergarten - walking on the moon,
Andrew's going to kindergarten, on monday, walking on the moon"

(the "on monday, walking on the moon" part matches up with the "walking on, walking on the moon" part - you know...)

of course, my name is Andrew.

but that's not the point.

my ridiculous request is that you ask Sting to participate in what would be the best joke ever, and have him sing those words (just once) during "walking on the moon" in Edmonton (if you do indeed play that song in Edmonton).. yeah... my sister and I are going to be at the Edmonton June 2 show. I won't tell her I put in this request, of course, and that's why it would be so funny.

ummm.. thanks for reading this if you did, and I COMPLETELY understand if you think this is the stupidest request ever. I just figured I might as well ask, seeing as you do visit and read from this board sometimes.

either way, i can't WAIT until June 2. I got 15th row floor seats! yeyeah!!!

If anyone knows of a better way to get this message sent to Stewart, please help out!

yes, it is a wish, but i think if Stewart sees it, he might find it funny enough to actually make it happen. Hence I am posting in this thread to bring it back to page 1. I hope no one gets mad at me if I do this every so often...

I was in a music store just before all the Grammy stuff happened and saw them and Just had to buy them. Then here they are coming here...so excited. Been a fan since I was a kid too 8, now 37.

getting more and more excited about this show... 2.5 months! that's nothing. Yes, I'm really hoping Stewart has read this and is considering it. And speaking of Stewart, I really hope I get to hear Darkness live...

While i concur its an extreme request, let's give a body a chance to dream, shall we? We're all in a bit of a twenty year time warp right now, and there's plenty of silly, trivial posts that make their way here. It's all in fun. To some degree, it's what keeps the board hot. But i can do without the flames :)

I see where you're coming from Greg but I wouldn't worry. These posts are not only harmless, but can be fun to read. But the best part is that for every 10,000 requests, maybe one fan gets their wish.

Jose posted a great link awhile back from youtube with Sting picking an audience member to sing a song. Not only did the audience go nuts, I think Sting enjoyed it too. I'd bet money that this tour will be extra memorable for a few people. This is just my opinion, but I think posts like this make Stewart smile. I personally can't see it happenning as per the original request, because adding the line would screw up the other 15,000 in attendance who would have no idea what was going on. But who knows?

Again, this is just an opinion, but I think people get involved in the arts because they truley enjoy entertaining others. When you're still the low guy on the totem pole is when it's best. If someone asks for an autograph, they not only get it, but they get conversation as well. That's because it's only one, or a few people at best and you can accomodate all requests. When you're the most popular guy in the country, it's not one person with a request, it's 1000. At that point you can only do your best.

Don't be offended Greg, I'm sure Stewart isn't. And I can almost assure you he will keep coming back. He's dealt with this before. Take care.

Hey, you never know. Sting played I Burn For You at Jones Beach in NY several years back so somebody in the audience could propose to his girlfriend. The guy had written him a letter with the request beforehand that it was his girlfriend's favorite song, etc. The fan has told the story on Stink.com and I remember it because I was there when it happened.

Then there was the guy who wanted to sing "I'm So Happy..." with Sting - I think he held up a sign with the request, so Sting granted it. It worked out so well that he invited someone up to sing it with him every night the rest of the tour. Was that Mercury Falling? All the tours run into each other after a while.

Yeah. I think Stewart of all people appreciates his fans - and the only reason requests like this one might not get granted is the sheer number of them. I really think all the guys would do it if they could, but if they played requests/granted backstage passes/hung out on people's lawns, they really wouldn't have time to do much else.

But, as others here have so eloquently pointed out, you just never know. I think folks should be welcome to write letters to Stewart or post whatever they want, as long as they realize it's a long shot (and personally, I'd hope they post in other threads also and become part of the community).

hey wow, i didn't realize my thread got some replies. yes, i do realize it's a long shot. i actually decided to stop bumping this thread because i felt weird and selfish doing it. my only wish really is that Stewart has seen it and then it'd be up to him. I STILL think it would be hilarious, but I also realize it IS ridiculous (hence the title of this thread).

yeah, i'm not going to be one bit disappointed if it doesn't happen. i really don't expect it to happen, but figured i might as well ask.

oh and it won't be 15000 other people, it'll be like 60000 other people! commonwealth stadium! though it hasn't sold out yet, so... well i don't know.

ok i'm done for now.
