Hello everyone! I finally dug myself out of my pile of books to come back to my long lost nutter home. Trying to manage my teaching career, my family and my grad studies has been quite the balancing act, and one of the things that had regrettably fallen off the tight rope has been time here at sc.net. I continue to follow Stewart on Twitter, but it's hardly the same as the community here.
For starters, Stewart didn't even tweet about his upcoming show with Off The Score at the Royal Conservatory's 21C Festival in Toronto, or that it will feature the world debut of a piece that the Conservatory commissioned him to write! I went all the way to Dallas to see the world premier of Gamelan D'Drum, but right now I came perilously close to missing out on this show -- a show which is being held not only in my home town but also on the campus of my university in a building that I pass four times a week! Urghhh!
Thankfully, my son (who is growing into quite a fine musician) brought home a flyer about the 21C Music Festival and with a rueful smile told me that I might want to check it out. I was afraid that he was about to talk me into giving him money for some concert that he wanted to see. Instead, within about a minute, I was asking him if he'd like to come with me to see Off The Score.
So, are there any other folks still around these parts who are thinking of taking in this concert? Maybe we could meet up. There is supposed to be a post-concert talk as well, which is always so much fun to take in with fellow nutters.
I see njperry continues to post all of Stewart's upcoming projects. Thanks so much for doing that! And I've learned my lesson. Even if I become swamped again, I will at least peak in here, even if only as a lurker and take a look at what's new.
ETA: I just looked back on Stewart's past tweets. Sorry, he did tweet about the 21C gig. But at the time I wasn't even on twitter much as I was too busy writing about the Book of Job and studying for a biblical Greek exam. The Off the Score concert really will be a welcomed break from work for me!
