OT - Thoughts on Whiplash

I haven't seen anyone's thoughts on Whiplash posted here. I know we have a number of music teachers as well as drummers who I'd think would have some insight.

Here's my 2 cents:
I enjoyed the movie. Liked the general concept of how complacency may stunt growth. HOWEVER, seemed off how he was a JAZZ drummer and his teacher was demanding robotic perfection. I didn't think this was what jazz was about. Maybe if the lead character was a classical musician . . .

Thoughts?
