Police bootleg review in Rolling Stone

Postby cass0874 on 16 Mar 2007 04:47

Has anyone seen the new Rolling Stone? In their bootleg review section, they finally get around to reviewing a Police bootleg. Somehow they ended up reviewing an extemely low circulating audience recording of Los Angeles, 01-15-81!? Out of all of the dozens of unbelievable bootlegs out there from the Police, where do they find this!? They even mention that it must be a second generation tape because of the quality! I'm guessing somebody at Rolling Stone must have grapped it off of DIME recently. How about 1 month later.....Australia 1-21-81....Best Police bootleg in existence!

Lol, how many do you have? I've never really collected (most people would rather male burned cd's and I can't).

The only thing I have is the Mont De Marsan Festival in France. Anyone know what year that was? Dietmar? Because someone just sent it to me, because I set him the Derangements.

One of the best?

Vynil LIVE IN ITALY '80 (tracks off Milano, April 2nd and Turin April 4th)...
..or the whole tape of Milano show....
...but I would say Reggio Emilia is great as well with Sting insulting fans spitting at him...great energy and fantastic rendition of the songs.

Melbourne '80 or Paris '80 have great audio sounds but I do prefer the energy and the rawness of the Reggatta shows.

I've got about 230 bootlegs by now !
Some of the early '79 (march & april) are great, because of a FM radio broadcasting.
The list of very good concerts is quite long (Newcastle 80, Berlin 80, Lyon 80, Beziers 80, Melbourne 81, Tokyo 81 etc.............)

For information, The Police played the Mont de Marsan festival in 1977, August 5 !

I have one on Vinyl called "Sting the Girls and Make Them Die." It's a two record set. One is a BBC performance from '79, the other is a live broadcast from WNEW FM in New York (Palladium, November '79). The BBC is a great performance - very raw. There's one point where Sting says, "You're the politest audience we've had all week - We normally play to deliquents!" There's one spot on the disc where you can hear what got recorded over - it's funny, some kind of schlocky pop tune.

I also have a CD called "For a Few Ones!" I wouldn't consider it a bootleg though, because most of the stuff on it has already been released.

It was 2-22-81 actually :). And I don't know if it's their best show ever since I haven't heard all of them  , but it's certainly the best one I've heard!
