Was it that big back then? I am from Spain and I only knew about this series because of Stewart's connection with it.
In The wolf of Wall Street there's a scene where someone gets really annoyed that someone calls him on the phone right when he's sitting on the sofa waiting for the series to begin. You see part of the opening credits etc

Well, consider that The Equaliser was broadcasted in many countries around the world (inlcuding Italy and some other European countries). Also, Stewart did the soundtrack while he was still in the 'shadow' of The Police break-up.

All kidding aside, it is my impression that is was a fairly big show. The lead actor Edward Woodward won the Golden Globe for best actor in a dramatic series in 1986, which says something.
