New Rehearsals Video at TPT!

Postby BongoBoy on 13 Mar 2007 18:25

People, people.

Even U2 does this, most bands do!

They are not playing the songs as they will be on stage. Sting is just giving a vocal cue or ghost track so the guys can follow the parts and changes. Stewart is reserving his drumming so the guys can talk through the song, this is how they work stuff out. They are not mellow, they are getting the arrangement s down. Stings drum comments are just how you suggest stuff and try things out...if you listen close you can hear that Sting seems concerned that the rhythm could get lost in that section when Stewart goes to the ride. It music making...the rocking out comes later on stage for you and me!.

If you had to run a desert marathon race that took many days, would you?:

- practice different parts of your run? starts, hills, tough terrain, conditioning etc?

- or would you simply run the full race over and over? You would burn out or injure!

This is just the feeling out stage, relax!!!

They are gonna hit you like a flippin Freight Train when the hit the stage, just wait and see!!!

Lounge Act? Gimmie a break.
Cheers.

Good !

You should!...because my sixth sense is telling me they are really gonna do this right.

...oh and I forgot to mention the video is pretty quiet soundwise and the song snippets were Message and Roxanne and a liitle of the bridge in Magic. The video wasn't so much about the tunes as it was about how they are quietly going through parts.

I love to watch the banter and compare it to my bands. Live vicariously! (oh I can't spell anymore)

Cool!

Gee whiz, I just noticed the Quicktime streams are broken for a change...sigh...

[quote]Divemistress, the tickets on the Ticketmaster Auction are allowed to go higher than face value?

You bet. Which is why you have to be careful if you're reselling a fan club ticket you bought over there. I'm not familiar with the "sell your tickets" option on Ticketmaster, but they hold their own auctions for particular shows and the tix are going about 50-100% higher than they sold through the presale (it's usually the first 10 rows or so of seats). Most folks think it's TM's way of trying to thwart the scalpers.

Just wish I thought Stew & co. would see some of that money...oh well.

Hm. Totally agree on the last bit. Though the first bit is interesting to keep in mind for later. Thanks!
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

This may be a stupid question. but bear with me. I'm a tad technologically impaired. Why can I not see/hear anything when I click on these video links? At home I figured it's the dial-up. But we're on a server at work. The little video window pops up with ths control bar and all it says is "loading." If video does start it stops after a few seconds. It's very frustrating. ERRRRRRRGH! :x
Stewart and Stanley together again!! YO!

>>Very very mellow stuff... maybe too mellow? Discuss...

It was practice...they were trying to work out Andy's guitar part, Sting was just filling in on the singing. They were deliberately taking it easy so Andy could get up to speed. The discussion about what Stewart was doing was in relation to what Andy was doing-- Sting was saying Andy's guitar part wasn't intense enough to match the sound when Stewart went to the ride, so Stewart tried keeping it on the hi-hat. The fact that they focus on such small details is what sets them apart from small-timers.

My only observation, as a guitar player, is that there is probably a lot of added pressure on Andy because of the fact that they're playing without any other musicians, particularly on a song like "Every Little Thing" which was originally full of keyboards. As the only instrument capable of playing chords, he's got to fill up a lot of space, and come up with just the right part to do it. What he was doing sounded good to me. Stewart's drumming was dead-on, even though he was holding back. He hasn't lost anything, that's for sure.

It goes without saying that when they play it for real, it has to be a lot more energetic, and I have no doubt it will be.

Samburu, the hi-quality links (for RealPlayer at least) of the last three videos posted simply don't work (I've no idea if the Windows Media ones run, since that platform isn't supported on the Mac).

I've been pestering management about it over at TPT. I suspect that if the Windows streams work, they've got anything Mac-related on the back burner.
