This might be old news to others, but this sure is news to me:

There is an 8 1/2-minute (!) pop song by a band called Sparky's Flaw titled "Stewart Copeland" (from an EP called One Small Step) available on the iTunes Music Store.

Seriously.

I have not yet gotten the guts to buy it: I'm tempted yet scared somehow. The most I can tell you from the preview is that the first line of the chorus is "Stewart Copeland says it doesn't even matter."

Congratulations, Stewart! You're a song!

I downloaded this song by accident a while back. I appreciate the sentiment, lyrical content and snare sound but other than that I think it's pretty horrible. Sorry everyone. I know, I know - I'm mean and evil.

I do think it's really cool that someone wrote such a specific song about our lord and master though

Listening today I figured out and corrected a couple of the lyrics, to my ears at least. Wait & See was mostly correct. I think this is how it all goes:

Well, he *does* write operas...

(Y'all, seriously - check your local listings for those "Equalizer" reruns. I had forgotten how good that show was, helped immeasurably by Stewart's inspired score...)

And you know what? This song was released in 2005...way pre-reunion.

I have to wonder if the kids of today aren't reading all these interviews with Taylor Hawkins, et. al, and doing their homework. I suspect Stewart's got a cult following similar to the one that cropped up behind Alex Chilton once The Replacements wrote that song about him some years ago.

(Chilton kicks ass and is from Memphis. I've seen him a few times...he's one or two degrees of separation from Stewart, too - touring members of Chilton's influential band Big Star include Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow, from Seattle; Stringfellow also plays some with Scott McCaughey, who performed with REM last night on the Rock Hall telecast...REM, the legendary IRS band, bla bla...)

Why no, I really don't have a collection of baseball cards with all of this information printed on the back, why do you ask?
