Peanuts -- Great Tune

Peanuts -- Great Tune

Postby Wait and See on 10 Mar 2007 04:24

I hadn't listened to this song in a while. Great lyrics-- good warning to themselves from the past as they go out there again to avoid the pitfalls...

It's all a game
You're not the same
Your famous name
The price of fame
Oh no
Try to liberate me
I said oh no
Stay and irritate me
I said oh no
Try to elevate me
I said oh no
Just a fallen hero
Don't wanna hear about the drugs you're taking
Don't wanna read about the love you're making
Don't wanna hear about the life you're faking
Don't wanna read about the muck they're raking
You sang your song
For much too long
The songs they're wrong
The bread has gone
Oh no
Try to liberate me
I said oh no
Stay and irritate me
I said oh no
Try to elevate me
I said oh no
Just a fallen hero
Don't wanna hear about the drugs you're taking
Don't wanna read about the love you're making
Don't wanna hear about the life you're faking
Don't wanna read about the muck they're raking
It's all a game
You're not the same
Your famous name
The price of fame
Oh no
Try to liberate me
I said oh no
Stay and irritate me
I said oh no
Try to elevate me
I said oh no
Just a fallen hero
[Oh, you're just a fallen hero]
Don't wanna hear about the drugs you're taking
Don't wanna read about the love you're making
Don't wanna hear about the life you're faking
Don't wanna read about the muck they're raking
Don't wanna find out what you've been taking
Don't wanna read about the love you're making
Don't wanna hear about the life you're faking
Don't wanna read about the muck they're raking
Don't wanna find out what you've been taking
Don't wanna read about the love you're making
Don't wanna hear about the life you're faking
Don't wanna read about the muck they're raking
Peanuts, peanuts
Peanuts
(Ad lib) [This is what it really is]
Oh, no, no
Oh, no, no
Oh, no, no
Oh, no, no
Oh, no, no
Oh

It was about Rod Stewart wasn't it?

Not likely Rod Stewart. John Lennon maybe (Oh No/Ono?)-- certainly "old wave" rock acts in general.

I recall reading an interview with Sting and he said he'd been reading the tabloids which were filled with all this stuff about Rod Stewart - so he wrote Peanuts.

it is about rod stewart because he suffers from a p[eanut allergy!! nice name for the song....

and do you know the story from the late 80's when rod hired a plane and knew stingo was having it the next week; so Rod scratched " where's your sense of humour, you miserable git string" on a table....

stingo hired the plane the next week; saw the remark and went round to rod's house and padlocked the front gates up; when rod called the police; stingo sent a bunch of flowers with a note attached "where's YOUR sense of humour?"

and then gordo ruins it all by doing that god awful song with rod stewart and bryan (for pete's sake) adams....................

It was before my time, so I'll take other's word for it...I don't know of Rod Stewart ever trying to "liberate" or "elevate" anyone though, which makes me think the intent was broader. It certainly applies to many more than him anyway...sums up my view of a lot of "artists" out there.

W&S, I was listening to Outlandos recently and thought the very same thing. Good words for the band to live by, especially now. And, maybe even somewhat prescient.
