I just read that Michael Hossack, drummer for the Doobie Brothers, died yesterday after a long battle with cancer. Rock and Roll heaven.

That would be Michael Hossack. Terrible loss, the Doobies were my first favorite band. I really started liking them around 1975-76. By that time, Michael had left the band and was replaced by Keith Knudsen. I recently went back and rediscovered the Captain and Me album and Toulouse Street, which have some really nice stuff on them. Michael Hossack and John Hartman were a great drum duet, easy equal to Butch Trucks and Jaimoe of the Allman Bros. They really knew how to set that groove and just lock into what each other was playing. I never got to see Michael perform with the Doobies. John and Keith were sort of my favorite of the Doobie drum duos, but Michael and John were the first and they really got the whole thing rolling. Like Keith, Michael will be greatly missed.
