I'm curious to know if there are any among us percussive types that have spent any time playing cajon?

I have been bringing one along when I go to see friends' gigs and have been asked to sit in here and there. It's kind of fun to play. Your thoughts?

Not me, but boy howdy would I ever love to do that! Do you have your own rig, Chatch?

I don't as yet but having had a look at these vids I really want to learn.
Not massively expensive either by the looks of things and probably wouldn't annoy my neighbours too much or send the dog running for the hills.

Thanks Chatchka, I'm going to give it a go.

I should caveat that when I play it is NO WHERE as great sounding as those two sample videos.

I saw a guy playing one recently in a blues band at a little club. Total unknowns just playing for fun. But this guy was spectacular. It sounded like he had a whole drum kit at his disposal. (He also played some mean harmonica, though not simultaneously.) Then just few days ago I saw some cajons for sale at a local music store and I was mighty tempted to get me one. As moonstone said, it would be great fun to play and it wouldn't be loud enough to bother the neighbours. Plus, unlike a prohibitively large drumkit, it wouldn't take up much room in my small house. (It seems that my dreams of a drum room has been put on hold with Dancerina's decision to not move out next year, having opted to attend university here in town.)
I'll let you know if I cave and buy myself a cajon.
In Dallas, the only game that really mattered was in the word gamelan.
