Fortunately, I had scheduled a half day only at work, since I had an 1hr 45min drive to The Show. Enough time to shower up/wash hair ( after all these years NO WAY going to breathe air w/ Stewart & the Guys w/ less than fresh clean hair). After meeting up w/ the couple who were also attending , we grabed a bite-a lot of healthy starches negate necessity breaks, oh and I don't drink so that helped-, another 15+ mins. at local pilot pre-WW2 watering hole w/ cool biplane photos to distract-no panic yet. Steady breeze starts to move the hot, tad humid air, nice since route to Churchill Downs is beginning to slow up-"wow! Are ALL these folks going to see the Police TOO?!?", my friend's boyfriend exclaimed. A pleasant 4 block walk, still calm but distraction starting, friends saying"hey slow down where's the race"....the line for-T-SHIRTS!!! 2 ohmygoodness of them-glad I'd saved all that cash! NOW trying not fidget as friends get into lo-on-nggg-ggg alchohol line( 1 h2o for me-again poyyt strategy here). FInding out who around you saw Them back then and how far did they drive....Suddenly the evening is beginning to fall, a giant spot lights up, roar of almost 30,000-what gong?
And that's when it all really starts.
Enjoy yer ride, full tilt, stand in your seat and let Them know how good the music sounds & how much Thank You we fans can give back.
And if your REALLY lucky you can wait out the traffiic in a Kentucky-style country kareoke bar w/ the local folks to help keep the excitement alive.
Best wishes, safe travels, and ENJOY!!!!!!
