OT: Rad drumming on the "street"

hi everyone

Mike here, I've been lurking on the board for a few years and occassionally chiming in with posts.

I recently got a new drum kit and decided to "road-test" it - thought some of you might enjoy watching this

Also - I know there are some fantastic (true) street drumming videos out there, including the one of Stew vs Dave and Taylor from the Foos, anyone care to share?

best,
Mike

That was odd and wonderful sir, thank you. (Is that Moira Vale Road by any chance?)

Hope the kit is safely indoors and annoying the neighbours now.

I think the video you're looking for is this one (about 3 mins in). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XaI2mtbR0I

haha thanks =) still can't use it at home unfortunately, but just recorded with it this past weekend and it sounded great with some new heads.

Yeah it's Mona Vale Road / Ryde Rd / Lane Cove Rd at the intersection with lady game drive... how did you know?

That bucket video is great, I suppose everyone has seen this guy by now too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80ThOLbScaE

I also love Ben Walsh's 'drum circle' vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaHnd82Lgfo amazing stuff.

Hello Mike

That was a lot of fun to watch. I loved that the cars were beeping at you as they went past. I think I'd have stopped and caused a traffic jam.

I hadn't seen any of the other vids so thank you Mike and Smudge. Wonderful!

Ha - well that makes perfect sense. If you can't play at home - play on the grass verge! That's genius.

I hadn't seen 'this guy'. Enjoyed that a lot - thank you. It's interesting to watch the passing feet and see that about half of them pick up the beat. I'm guessing the other half are plugged in to iPods, or they just don't got rhythm.

MONA Vale Road. (No idea where Moira Vale Road is - oops). I'm not a local - guess that's bloody obvious - but it looked familiar from a visit to friends in your fine city a good few years back. The Ku-Ring-Gai signpost was what triggered the memory.

Thanks smudge -

Recently came across another great video, it isn't drumming on the street either, but it is ridiculously cool!

It's drumming on rocks! Cheers for that.

I should preface this with the standard 'I'm not a musician' clause.

See - I really didn't get that. The setting - very cool. The energy - yup, it has that. No question the guy can do incredible things to a kit. But it was spectator sport for me. I couldn't do anything more than observe and be impressed by technique. By contrast the performance of street drumming guy (and your own grass verge adventure) get into passing brains via ears, and motivate limbs.

It's probably an ear/brain interface deficiency on my part, but when it gets that busy it stops being music to my ears.
