Great Interview, Stewart!! Thanks for linking it, Gina!!

I swear, that dude is so entertaining. He just tells it like it is and isn't trying to put on airs. He's not trying to hide the fact that he's so very excited that this is all happening and I love that! It's infectious!

"I FEEL 20 years old!"

yeah!!

Children of Men was worth seeing once, but not one I ever want to see again.

THe guy interviewing him seemed to forget his name off and on.

Never thought of the backup singers that way. I see them (along with the horns) as a line that separates the band from its early days as a trio to a super group, a bit of rock star flash and eye candy. Now, if you brought in some of the Marleys (and plenty are out there still making music), that would be some fun, ha ha. Maybe next time.

But if they are going to stay true to the original concept of the band for this tour, I guess Stewart and Andy's voices can't be replaced. Now, onto more important matters:

I got my tickets in the mail today!!!!!

[quote="reggattagirl"]Very entertaining ... but I still don't know why they can't have boy backup singers!

I see it as a nod to the I-Threes, the three female backup singers that became an integral part of Bob Marley and the Wailers after the original trio broke up. Of course, the original group *was* a mostly all-male effort except for their very earliest recordings, but by the time Bob conquered the world, the ladies were firmly in place. And it was during that era that the Police were founded.

Sting once described the Police sound as "locking reggae with pop", and Stewart has many times told the story about how he was really into Bob and shared some of his records with Sting in the very earliest days of the band. Stewart even referenced him at the Whiskey, saying all their songs sound like Bob Marley. While *that's* a bit of a stretch, it remains clear that if the Wailers hadn't exploded like they did in the 70's, the Police would have been a very different band. Their influence is not to be underestimated.
