As for the vocals, they are all post hence the ‘polished’ vs live energy thing. We’ve discussed that aspect. Dan is extremely self-conscious about his vocals and he worries that he doesn’t sound enough like Sting when he really goes for it – I’ve told him that the band sounds enough like the Police for him to be able to just put some aggressive energy into his voice and to hell with the Sting doppelganger factor – he has a fu^&ing great voice when he lets himself get into it.
Not being able to have a selection of takes to choose from could certainly affect the final outcome. BUT considering you had little time for the song, it did come out quite well.
Let your singer know that he sounds great, and we are looking forward to him flexing his vocal muscles, even if it means losing the Stingness a bit.

It's obvious your band has worked hard and gotten 'the sound' down and at your disposal, so now focus on the energy/rawness and see where that goes, then swing the pendulum back to 'the sound'. Dial the 'raw' back a bit and I think you'll find the balance you're looking for.
Looking forward to more stuff!
