STEWART & David Byrne?

STEWART & David Byrne?

Postby plutonic on 21 Jan 2010 18:05

I think it was the picture of Gizmo that did it.
Mauro Refosco is the missing link.
Mauro played in Gizmo, and is a regular in D.B.'s recent bands.

It led me to think:

How hot would a D.B./Stewart collaboration be?
Too hot, I think.
It'd be like the ultimate rhythmic nerd-stravaganza.

D.B. has been known to collaborate with Fat Boy Slim for riffs, etc.
I can't even imagine the awesomeness if D.B. wrote based on loops and riffs and ideas from Stewart.
Better yet, they might pass ideas back and forth.

Is anybody with me here?
Can't you totally hear David Byrne singing 'Office Girls'?
Listen to Kinetic Ritual.
Then listen to I Zimbra.

Too hot, I think, if they both show up in a tutu.

Policefan, I would think of Stewart more as a kilt kind of a guy rather than a tutu. (wink)

Pluto, Without even listening to those two songs, I think that would be a cool collaboration. BUT, I'm still going to listen to those songs now.

Yeah, great collaboration!
Instead of thinking about tracks from the past, I would really be curious to see them both working on something new, and when I say new I don't mean just new tracks, but new sounds...I guess ti could be terrific....even if you never know if 'monsters' like both of them could really find a way to agree musically speaking and make it work...sometimes that's even more difficult because of their powerful and strong personality in what they do with music.

You and I are on the same wavelength... Adrian Belew!

(j/k, although he would be great on this gig, too.)

I love the idea of Andy and Stewart getting together in L.A. They drop it like it's hot for a few hours of jams with some funky bassist. Bill Laswell would be my choice, 'cause I want to hear some spaced out jams. But Hmm.... Quirky? Funky? Les Claypool anyone? Yes.

Some talented looper is on hand to tape the madness and cuts it up and sends the grooves to D.B. in NYC. I'm going to go with B.T., Brian Transeau. Although Squarepusher plays wacky bass....

D.B. does his thing, volleys it back.
Stewart busts out the mallets and melodic percussion.

The interesting thing is, this project is actually pretty commercially viable.
The drummer from The Police and the songwriter from The Talking Heads?
We're talking song groove 80's nirvana.

Mauro's gigging with Thom Yorke, I read somewhere.
So I think this act would be perfect to open the next Radiohead tour.

STEWART hear my prayer.

Uhmm David Byrne was here in Lima in the 90's and he loved so much peruvian music...thats why he included a great afro-peruvian singer into their own world music cathalogue...the result, the peruvian singer called "Susana Baca" became one of the most spectaculars acts into the world music scene, with her style and unique music making worldwide tours that includes countries like Finland, Island, or Sweden more than the regular ones... Hope another peruvian great voice "Juan Diego Florez" (considered the sucessor of Pavorotti) could singing a duetto with Sting the same day they will presented such concerts in Philladelphia next days (January 30th)
