My dvd player wasn't advertised as being region free, but I googled it and found there was a DVD remote hack where if I enter a certain 4 digit code, it brings up a window that enables me to switch regions or make it region free. It's a cheap Lite-On player.

Indeed. My friend Bev bought me a cheap ass dvd player a couple years ago--tiny little box--but it's the only one I can play Region 2 discs on! I love the thing! Plus I can pack and carry it with me as need be.

I know one of the problems with a lot of tv show releases on dvd is, not anticipating the technology and demand for shows in box sets, most series did not secure the rights for the music to be distributed beyond airing on television. Hence a lot of shows where the soundtracks contributed heavily to the episodes have suffered on dvd release or not been released at all. ("Wiseguy" is another 80s show with a huge problem in this regard...the scene set to "Nights in White Satin" is a fandom staple, yet not available on dvd... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mv9Uy76fM0 ) "Cold Case" I know had a lot of problems because of their soundtrack issues as well...

I read about that code too Conroy, but I have never seen it actually divulged. I can't imagine how it would work on all players tho. It must be a plot by the New World Order

Sockii, I just recently finished that Wiseguy season 1 set, and yeah, Nights was sorely missed. It's only our memories of how these shows were originally aired that makes the re-edited versions unworkable. Most of the non-Stew music in Equalizer never made any sort of impression on me, but I had been meaning to look up that clip on youtube. Thanks!

It's ironic that they left Good Love in there, and it's on the dvd as well. Since Sonny was singing along, it would have been hard to air the scene without it. I'm kinda surprised that couple of minutes didn't just get deleted entirely from the set. Doubly ironic is that the youtube vid seems to be a specific ad for purchasing Nights on itunes. It makes me think that somehow, some way, this clip represents some kind of kickback for the Moody Blues. But doesn't it piss all over Steven Cannell's proprietary rights??

Guess I'm thinking about it all too hard...

How beautifully written - thank you.
