Jean is sure he heard that "tea question" in a mix.
But that doesn't mean that the demo version we know still contains that question on any audible level.
A friend of mine works as a music producer and he worked on both demo and Ghost version with all the technical stuff known to mankind. Still couldn't find that spot.
So I guess it's a nice story without any verification, but Jean wasn't pulling my leg and I wasn't pulling yours.

I have a question: does anyone know what the drum machine Sting used was? The one that also had a tape recorder built in? You can see it in the Jools Holland interview in the "The Police In Montserrat" documentary.

For all those audio enthusiasts out there. The original demo was recorded on sixteen track two inch tape. When they decided to record overdubs, drums and guitar, on to the original demo they loaded the 16 track tape on a 24 track machine. This results in open tracks between the original 16, onto which you can record additional tracks.
If there was any remnant of someone asking the TEA question on the 16 track demo, by the time drum and guitar overdubs were completed on the 24 track, the audio would have been greatly reduced or even erased. Happy hunting.

And for my two cents--that deluxe boxed set that they could one day release should have Police demos, including Every Little Thing...

i've been listening in various places (car, ears, office, home) to the ELTSDIM demo and still can't hear anyone, in either english ou Français, ask about any bleedin' tea....

just had a thought that it might be on the version which has the "daytime Job" words on it?

Honestly I think that it was a taperecorder with a little keyboard built in
