Today on ESPN radio, the host, Dan Patrick, was interviewing the person primarily in charge of booking acts for the Super Bowl halftime show. Dan Patrick was asking who might play in the upcoming Super Bowl, and specifically asked about the Police. The response was interesting.
The person said that they had talked to the Police about performing at this past Super Bowl, but they were "too far down the road with Prince" for that to happen. Hmmm. The Super Bowl took place on Feb. 4. So, these talks must have occurred sometime well before then and, likely, well before any of us had heard rumors of a reunion. This person also said that, when asked about the 2008 Super Bowl, he was told that the Police would be finished touring by then -- that it would be once and done type of reunion. Of course, it seems that is not the case now, as the tour looks like it will extend well past next winter.
When pressed, the person said he doubted the Police would play the Super Bowl because they are looking for a "fresh act" -- one who hasn't been in the public eye recently. He said if the Police were touring for 6-8 months, they wouldn't be "fresh". Obviously, this clown has never seen the Police live.
Just thought I would share that with everyone. Remember, don't kill the messenger...
