Perhaps he wanted to cover the song and was inspired by this performance as well !

I think that a rock star making fun of that girl is even less classy. I think that it was downright cruel. This girl, stupid as she may be, was a big enough fan to purchase front row tickets to this concert. She gets there. She gets excited, and she is having the time of her life. Then, out of nowhere, her idol, her god destroys her. He mocks her fandom, her sexuality, and her intelligence – all in one fell swoop. The wound is public and irrevocable.

Exactly.
It was just so unnecessary.

Really enjoyed the video, except when he is making fun of the female fan at the end.

I generally don't like covers of my favorite bands but this was good. Wasn't so like the original that you thought they were trying to be StewartAndySting but they didn't go so far out of thier way to make it song like a different song altogether.

While I do think that the worst version that the Police did of that song live was still probably 20,000 X better than that version by PJ, I can't say that PJ's version was horrible. PJ's version was just ok, but the Police take that song to levels even other great bands can't even dream of.

As to Eddie's behavior at the end of the song, am I naive to think that Eddie was truly disgusted by the girl's behavior? I thought he might be thinking, "This ain't a Poison concert. Show some dignity. Show some class. Show some respect for YOURSELF."

I agree with EQ. I think Vedder has been a pretty vocal supporter of women's rights in interviews and in his lyrics. I interpreted this tirade as a means not just to embarrass the girl, but also to give her and other women pause to think; that they don't have to demean themselves for the entertainment of a bunch of drunk frat boys in the crowd.

(hi eq) ....and a great way to encourage and facilitate someone regaining their dignity, class and self-respect would be for them to have his/her hero negatively comment on their bodyshape ["look at my mosquito bites from the summer") and to threaten to shit on them (""i like to shit on little girls heads, just like you, thats what turns me on"), jeeez he should be a motivational speaker, a spiritual leader, a moral guide... whhhhat an arsehole.

and does being educated and having voted in the past mean that you're not permitted and shouldn't be allowed to flash a nearby rockstar?
that sucks, what a terrible view to hold, i'm disgusted at eddie's comments...i'm going to start a movement encouraging educated, voting women to expose themselves whenever they feel like it.....

Hmmmmmmmm.

I dunno. You can't really tell what's going on in the Youtube video, I didn't think. While I'm favour of Smax's educated, voting types exposing themselves in general, I've also been stuck behind drunken jackholes screaming, pouring beer all over themselves and everyone else, and generally making a nuisance of themselves - after I've paid $$$$ to see a show. I'm a nondrinker these days, but even before that, man....I've thought for years I'd pay extra money to get to go to shows where booze isn't served. I just think far too many people equate concertgoing with getting shitfaced drunk and assuming everyone else will think your antics are "cute". By the way, certainly this isn't a problem that's isolated to women.

I think Eddie went somewhat overboard, but I confess I've been tempted to say those things and worse, when trapped behind some fool thinking only of him or herself and his/her own good time at a show I've been waiting a long time to see. There's no escape when the show is assigned seating, also.

<end soapbox>

ETA: On re-watching the video, I notice Eddie's drinking something on stage. Water? Beer? I guess we've all heard unfortunate stories of performers getting shitfaced and dogging on the audience as well. if that's the case, I retract my previous statements, mostly - but without more info, it's hard to make a call.

It is a competent cover to my ears. Not great, but hardly a car crash. And yeah DBMI - I've got no idea how to explain 'groove' but it lacked it.

I can understand a musician being irritated by people flashing their tits. But from beginning to end, the response was just horrible. 'Lady, it is doing nothing for me, and have a little respect for yourself and those around you - keep your shirt on.' would have sufficed. Has he subsequently used the 'Josh Homme' defence? 'I was ill.' Sheesh.

Now, now. We had a non-asshat clause. What about DM makes you think people weren't afraid to cross her on that?

I didn't realize this album had such a lackluster beginning.
