Anyone have a clue why the Police's BBC sessions have never been officially released?
I just purchased Cream's BBC Sessions. I have the Hendrix, Zeppelin, and Beatles BBC Sessions on offical release. I know there are Stewart's pre-Police band Curved Air and the Who and probably many more. (I need to get the Curved Air one, even though Stewart isn't on all of the tracks.)
Of course, there are many tracks available unoffically but it would be nice for an offical release.
Any thoughts on why no release?

i used to harp on about this all the time. why doesn't label ever release anything interesting? why do the genesis and rolling stones and u2 fans get all the joy? 2 possible reasons as far as i can see: 1. sting won't let it happen because he's an old bearded woman. 2. the label is useless (they couldn't even get their shit together to do a live reunion release to sell at merch tables during the late part of the tour - that would have made them a packet. sigh. it's sad but true - us police fans have to rely on bootlegs.

Well the BBC sessions that the Police did (that I've heard) are all pretty sorry sounding quality-wise, that could be why. Most people wouldn't pay money for tracks like that, no matter how cool they sound.

yeah, I have a feeling its Sting who wont let them get released. He is really terretorial on police stuff. I wish they would release it though

not true. in fact when did the police recording -anything- that was sorry sounding? if you are referring to the fact that until last year there were only second rate tape transfers floating around, that has no reflection on what BBC would have in their archives. you can't judge an unreleased live recording by how genned the circulating transfers sound. the source is what would be released, not the "2nd gen tape transfer" that gets uploaded to dime. anyway, for some time now master broadcast transfers have been circulating of those recordings and they sound pretty much as good as any official release.

Jeez, calm down pal. All I ever heard was the tape transfer which is very rough sounding. I didn't know there were any better sounding ones out there.
