Some more Ben-Hur info about the production

Some more Ben-Hur info about the production

UK article:
http://www.wharf.co.uk/2009/03/ben-hur- ... ill-o.html

The Stewarty paragraph:
"There are all kinds of elements in there - the operatic music specially written by Stewart Copeland, the spectacle moments like the chariot race, and the emotional pull of the story.
Other comments I like:
"But we're not trying to create realism. It's a contemporary vision rooted in the historical."
Which is good since killing off some of the actors would really piss off the union.
The story of Ben Hur is set at the time of Jesus and for added authenticity the production will be in Latin and Aramaic, not languages commonly used in any of the countries the tour will visit.
Oh, bless.
Dramatic highlights & a unique musical cosmos. Guaranteed.

Thanks for the update.

There aren't many countries that regularly use Latin or Aramaic these days. None use Latin (save Vatican City at times) and Aramaic is a minority language in a handful of Middle Eastern countries.

If they really wanted to be authentic, they would use Greek instead of Latin since that was the language of the educated and elite in Roman Palestine and the rest of the Eastern Mediterranean. The New Testament was written down in Greek first, not Latin.
SC-There are a few crazy people on this planet. Sure sign of that is that they kinda like my music
