Dodged the NEW MUSIC question TWICE....

Postby New Zealand Promoter on 14 Feb 2007 06:37

I guess you all noticed that the boys were asked not once but twice about new music, and not once but twice didn't answer the question...

Anyone have a scoop on this?

I asked Gio, and he said Stewart said they were "jamming".
“...and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?”

I'd like to think it's more a positive than negative sign that they dodged it twice... :)

Oh well without new songs I'll still be incredibly happy anyways.

I got the complete opposite impression. When Stewart went off on his tangent about raping and pillaging, i was taking that as his comical way of answering in the affirmative. But he went a step farther in his answer:

"Ooooohhh, you mean the MUSIC! Yeah, sure."

He was downplaying the notion, but that's a yes in my book. I've got the whole shebang on dvd, and will be checking it again this evening, but I've always paid very close attention to his words, and this was the million dollar question of the decade, so i paid even more than usual.

"Fully bonded", "we're back!", the HUGE change in Sting's attitude, Stewart's likening their career to a parabola... these are all scant indicators, but they all collectively suggest strongly to me they aren't thru making new music together.

I don't look for any new songs on this tour tho, and it's possible that the fates could lead them in a different direction by the time they might be ready to start recording. But for now, i at least believe the intent is there...

I agree that it was very interesting how the question was completely dodged, and that's fine with me.

I get the impression that they don't want to promise anything and put pressure on what may or may not happen. See what the chemistry is like at this point, play around, and if it's gonna happen, I'd rather see it happen organically like that then under any imposed obligations of putting out X number of new tracks.

^ yeah I agree... they probably just don't really know if they will put out new songs or not, so they're not saying anything really. my guess is they hope to make new music, but if it doesn't work out they don't want people to be disappointed.

Meant to add this earlier but got interrupted...anyway...

Is anyone else just severely freaked out that we're even discusing the real possibility of new music and that there really seems to be some chance of it now? Let alone all of the rest of what's going on right now?

At moments I still feel like I've stepped into an alternative reality, here. Even after seeing them Monday I'm finding it hard to believe that it's all happening.

I guess I owe a few folks apologies for always thinking them daydreamers that this day would come along.

This is an alternate reality, Sockii!

As I mentioned in my post, in my sleep deprived state Sunday night as I drifted off I was truly worried that I would wake up and the whole thing would be some kind of cosmic joke - that I would wake up back in the cold, cruel reality of just a few years ago, with no hope of a Police reunion.

Jeez, I need to get back to work...

I think some of you are right.

They will obviously be jamming as the rehearse for the shows, I am sure they have no idea what will happen and what they might come out with.

If they jam some killer stuff, they will release it, and they WILL be number one again 20 years later.

I believe this will happen, I really do.

I am getting over my depression of fighting for tickets and getting crap.

It has really brought me down. I know I will get past it but I really feel "light in the wallet" and not much to show for it.

I know very well that I should be extremely happy that there is a show to go see, I expected more.

I am watching the Whisky again...to bring me back.

Tell me what band would ever show themselves un-rehearsed like that in front of the world?. I give them credit, that is what we wanted to see, Sting so happy it was wierd....and fantastic!

It's like there is a Sting that is solo and a different rocker Sting with the Police.

I like the Police Stingo better.

Rants over.

Cheers.

But doesn't Andy have some old songs the Police never recorded?

Didn't Andy say in his book that he wrote a bunch of songs for "Ghost" that Sting refused to use because he believed they might show him up as lead songwriter?

If you believe Andy's story--and it's pretty easy for me to do so after listening to the amazing "Omegaman"--there should be a few ready to go.

Drat and double drat! My recoding of the press conference came out sounding pretty horrid. I had to record it on tape to get it to dvd and apparently the vcr is fubar'ed.

Sockii and others expressd my feelings more eloquently. Rather than say i think the intent is there, i will say i believe they are open to it. Another clue was Stewart's dropping the Eagles as reference, made hilarious by Sting's chiding of him for it. "This is what i have to put up with!" Too kool...

Sockii....

I couldn't agree more. I locked myself in a conference room on Monday at work and told everyone "hold my calls" from 2-3...ha!

I still wake up each morning and cannot believe that this is happening.

I really, truly feel like I'm 13 again. It's given me that much joy. This band was (and is) one that really made people feel something.

For that I have to say "thanks, boys for doing this and making so many people this happy" I absolutely cannot wait to be sitting in an arena in a few months watching these guys perform live.

Imagine what we'll feel like then?!?!?!? - I can't wait

YO!
